Pet Peeves?

I deal with a lot of younger folks (18-30). Even some over 30 fall into my "I'm going to punch somebody in the throat category"
My Peeve:

Inability to take care of themselves as an adult/Parent Failure

Over 50% of my job entails being my workers parent. Just to clarify I'm Active Military.

Oh, brings in another gasket blower.
If I tell these immature knuckle heads they're idiots and need to grow up, not do stupid things, think before they act, or heaven forbid accept responsibility for their actions; I'm insensitive and a bully.

Ok need to go PT off some steam now!

ps I'm with Geezer $3 freaking bucks for a cone...right up with paying for a bottle of water

Well, you know you are becoming a senior in society when you think 30 is young. I'm there with you, so I understand. When I was 17, I thought 30 was old. How your perspective changes, yes?

My pet peeve with the some of the younger generation lately is the entitlement attitude and the belief in lack of consequences. No matter what happens, some of my younger friends believe that mom and dad or their lawyer can get them out of a jam. And many of them feel entitled to do whatever they want and entitled to get whatever they way.... without working hard for it. When I was 18 you got served your butt when you did something illegal or outrageous, and you got fired if you didn't work hard.....and I knew it. The fear of that helped mold my functioning as a gentleman and (I hope) be a decent employee even at an early age.

Before I started my own comapny 20 years ago, I was in a higher management role with a Fortune 500 company. I was in charge of a team in their early 20s, right out of college. It was like babysitting. I was shocked at the change from when I was their age, because I was only about 15-20 years older at the time. But I suppose all things change. I'm sure when I was 21 and entering the workforce, my manager thought I was a bit different too. Although I was in deadly fear of losing my job so I tried to be a model employee. Sometimes I think fear is a good motivator as long as it is not over the top. Just a little fear is sometimes a good thing.

$5 fancy ass coffee with like 10 names for one coffee (yeah, Starbucks). Just tell me what your freshest pot of your finest beans is, and give me a medium of that (whatever they call a medium). I'll add cream and sugar myself.

Agreed. What HUGE profit for Starbucks on specialty coffees. 1,000 percent markup. I can't remember the last time I went to Starbucks. But never fear, SWMBO goes there at least once a day for her hot chocolates. They still get their fair share from the Zop household.

What killed going to Starbucks for me was discovering the "Moka Pot". $20 on Amazon for better specialty coffee than most coffee houses can serve me for a fraction of the cost. I happen to love Latte with foam. I know it may not be "Manly" but it's something I like. I can make my own at home in 10 minutes (including grinding beans) for around 25 cents a cup. Actually my passion lately is a "Flat White". I have a higher end Cappuccino maker, but the simple stove top Moka pot makes the best coffee I ever tasted. And we sure have plenty of Kona available in Hawaii to brew up in it.

The end result of parents trying to be their children's friends and not their mentor/parents. Sometimes I worry about folks in my age range, seems like no one ever took the time to teach them the basics of how to adult. I look at those in the 18 to 20 range and wonder if I was that bad at that age. I sure hope not.

Starbucks is a whole other topic. I don't shop there, but I suppose I can't hate a company for finding a way to separate folks from their money. Not all of them are oblivious to the cost. I spoke to one lady that had tabulated it and knew full well she was spending $2,500 to $3,000 a year at that place. Her treat to herself, but at that rate I think I would treat myself to a nice cappuccino machine and learn to make better brew at home.

My pet peeve - the telephone at work. I got a last minute panic job dropped onto my box at 4:40 yesterday. Oil change, nice and simple 10 minute affair if I'm poking around. No problem. Told 'em as soon as I finished the car in my bay I'd get right on it. 5 minutes later my phone starts ringing, and I have 2 service writers and the service manager chain calling me one after the other for 15 minutes solid about this oil change.

I blew a gasket at the 14 minute mark. If they'd just left me alone to do what I'm paid to do, it would've been done before the calls even stopped. I hate that phone with everything I have to hate it with.

Funny, I'm drinking a Kona blend right now from a Costco brand-not bad for an afternoon pour over. I'm about to switch to beer as I have 3 racks of pork ribs coming off the smoker in the next few minutes.

Members who talk about pork ribs and beer when I'm hungry and thirsty... (kidding)
