2018 Nobel Prize in Medicine
Ran into this extremely fascinating (and lengthy) WIRED article revealing the work done by a researcher who uncovered the most substantial cancer fighting breakthrough of our time. The article compares the achievement to the discovery of penicillin.
Up until this multi-talented Texan's research, our immune system had baffled scientists' ability to pinpoint and explain the underlying mechanisms keeping our bodies healthy. Sort of like our unexplored deep oceans -- we know the moon intimately well yet 90% of the oceans are an utter mystery.
Yet the guy plays the blues harmonica well enough to have backed up Willie Nelson one random evening in some bar in California. (Maybe dope is for doctorates, too?)
