Brooch pin, used to keep a cloak or plaid around the shoulders. That's a nicely done, hand forged piece.
That’s what it is,
Yep
My grandma had one
Also great for self defence - a quick stab in the eye to an attacker.
Oh, i thought it was a ten dollar bill :). Seriously, a beautiful work of art, (now i'm going to have to try a make something similar in the smithy).
Is the pointy piece locked in place somehow so it doesn't move around the ring? Eye removing tool. Nice! :)
Interesting snake scrolls on the ends. I may have to try them too. Not sure where though. Not much call for broach pins these days.
Look up matchcoat.
Could also double as a striker if needed.
That's a nice one! Something quite similar is sold on line at:

Happy New Year!
I’m no expert, but I think the Scots used something like this to secure their kilts around their shoulders. I’ll have to watch Braveheart or Rob Roy again, just to see.
Yup....a penannular brooch.....just need a nice wool blanket ..to make a match coat...to go with my .62 cal Smoothbore Flinter....

Good video here.
Thanks for the vid. That helped a lot. I can see this being a very useful item. Plus it plucks out eyeballs. LOL.
Yup....just some old school ways....just like shaving with old Sheffield Steel from the 1850’s
