I messaged it to a lot of people. I found it to be a great video. Thanks Mike.
I had ordered in some things from Amazon and they were scheduled to be delivered today. I'm sure that my deliveries are at the end of the UPS route as I rarely ever get my packages before 4 pm.
Anyway this package had the option of seeing where my delivery was and I'd been checking and saw that it actually was almost here. I'd opened the door and saw the delivery guy walking toward me with the package and said, "Here you go" and I stepped back a bit and told him to just leave it on the porch and I'd pick it up after he'd stepped back a bit. He looked at me a bit funny and I said "I don't mind the social distancing at all" to which he said. "How do you know my gloves aren't carrying the virus"? I said "I don't, that's why once I pick up the package, I'll open it over the garbage can, then put the outside wrapper in the garbage, and then go and wash my hands.
He shook his head in disbelief and walked back to this van.
I should note that he wasn't wearing disposable gloves----------he was wearing 'Mechanic's Gloves'.
I could have done things like wiping the cardboard box inside the plastic packaging but my supply of alcohol of that type is low and there's none on the shelves that I've found in the few times I've ventured out.

Doing the right thing is getting complicated.
Roy, you were right to take that precaution. That driver may not
be concerned about you, but he's definitely taking a chance
doing what he's doing, and he should take more precautions,
or maybe just stay home.
What about other essential service providers? Here's one
dilemma that I know of first hand, from my neighborhood:
She is a nurse in one of the local hospitals; he is a deputy sheriff;
they are both at high risk of exposure to the virus; they have a
young child. They have a nanny taking care of the baby in their
home while they do essential service work; the nanny is a
woman in the "high risk" group (60 years old, with diabetes).
Does the nanny decide to stay home, or follow the "Help the Helpers"
recommendation? If the nanny continues to care for the child, how
much is she risking contracting the virus, and/or bring it home to her
husband/family who are sheltering in place?
If the nanny stays home, who will take care of the child? Will one of
the essential service providers then have to stay home?...which will
mean one less service provider for the community?
It's just not as simple as "shelter in place."

On a lighter note ....
They say that a loss of taste and smell may indicate the Covid-19 virus. If so then I must be just fine cause every time I pass gas it is really gross! .... :)
Saw this recently in the Ottawa Citizen.
This fellow provides a whole new take on educating your kids at home during school closure and social distancing and isolation. It’s a good read.

Randy, I'm happy for you. That goes a long way to explain why you're still single.
If anyone has a 3D printer you might find this interesting:
https://www.geekwire.com/2020/maker-...otective-gear/
I would have a hard time using these in a situation that needed more than a surgical mask.
Riding the bus or a subway ok but not in a situation where a heppa is needed. A couple of reasons.
1. both guys in the video have beards.:hmmm: Don't try to sell me a mask having a beard!
2. I like the idea that the masks can be heated in hot water to form fit but then every mask would have to be fit tested.
3. This brings up that even every major manufacturers models should be fit tested. If we change from brand X to Brand Y we have to be refit tested for brand Y even though we passed for brand X. Open source is cool but every printer/manufacturers model would have to be separately fit tested.
4. Where are these common parts such as valves coming from? You could print a million masks but if you didn't have the check valves what good are they?
I would trust these similar or less that the mask my mother could sew out of cotton material with elastic ear straps.
It's my understanding that the process makes the valves.
I think that the idea is to be able to make masks for yourself for things like being on buses, stores etc. However I'm not trying to over think these kinds of things. I don't have a printer and I just maintain distance between myself and other folk.
About beards---when I was in the Navy, beards were allowed, but when I was in Submarine School, the petty officer who was teaching about the OBA (Oxygen Breathing Apparatus) had a full beard and he pointed out that if he was ordered back to sea that the beard would be the first to go as it wouldn't allow a good fit of the OBA.
Just common sense in my mind.
Yes, depending on what type of facial hair you are sporting it can interfere with the proper fit of a mask. Masks come in different sizes, at least they did where I worked, and had to be fitted to your face. Beards were a no no onboard a ship because you could not get a good seal when using the MSA Chemox breathing Apparatus. It used chemicals to produce oxygen to breath.

The OBA of the past looked very similar to your MSA:

Looks like there may be another new wrinkle with this Covid 19 virus.
https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world...cid=spartandhp
Bob
That is a worry Bob.
Our testing is good, but self isolated patients aren't checked again. They just have to be symptom free for 48 hrs.
Another concern is the rush for a vaccine or a cure and this damn thing mutates making matters worse.
I will say this, I believe that when this is all said and done, we're going to realize how badly we crippled our economy and further had our liberties deteriorated, all for a virus. I still don't believe this is like any other pandemic we've had, something doesn't seem right.
Whenever any crisis occurs it I guess it's comfortable to look for a scapegoat or reason in the realm of some conspiracy theory or another. However, you just gotta sit back for a minute and use your grey matter and consider all the facts might just be out there in front of you not on some social site being spun like some old yarn.
As of today the US has had 4 million infections. Looking at the chart in the link, it is starting to rise exponentially and at that rate it will be a little over a week before the 5 million mark is hit. Maybe time to reconsider wearing of face masks, social distancing and avoiding large gatherings?
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...ne/5485674002/
Bob
Bob as you know I have no problem with wearing a face mask, keeping a distance while in public and avoiding large gatherings.
Personally I think that those that do have a problem with such simple acts are selfish, only considering themselves and not thinking about how their actions are like the old adage of dropping a single pebble in a calm pool of water creates ripples that spread far from where the pebble was dropped.
Some are also ignorant and don't realize how their actions can affect others.
And of course there are always the ones who know what their actions are capable of doing but have their heads so far up their derriere that they can't see the light.
This is the old U.S, land of the free and ain't nobody gonna tell me what to do.
As long as we have these troglodytes things won't change and we will never ever be rid of this virus cause 10s of millions here alone will refuse the vaccine and that combined with (probably) a less that even 90% effectiveness will ensure it's propagation.
Maybe they need to erect camps and put all the non compliers in there to protect the general population. You know the old saying about no accounting for stupid.
Well actually you are told what to do and it's by many people.
You're told how fast you can drive. You're told when you have pay for the license of your vehicles and how much, You're told how much insurance you are required to be able to drive those vehicles. You're told when you are required to file your Income taxes along with Property taxes. Corporations and Individuals tell you what hours you can shop their business and often times how you must be dressed, the old No Shirt No Shoes No Service is very often in place. That old signage has been expanded to include No Mask No Service.
The amount of decisions you are allowed to make all on your own is actually quite limited.
I believe that my point about selfishness and ignorance covers this.
I see no need for extremes as camps as someone would need to be told what they needed to do.
Around here they have cried Wolf so many times they are getting the opposite reaction that they want.
If the numbers don't get to what they predicted they change the way they count.......
Numbers here are down. Last month we were seeing COVID every day and moving them to our COVID hospital where we had 3 ICU's, each with 13 beds and they all filled. Since then the numbers have declined. Closed one of the ICU's. As of Monday we had 17 ICU patients. I hope it stays this way. As a system we went from a high of 154 total hospitalized patients down to 55 and now we are at 72.
It's a weird disease. One guy I know got it and ended up on ECMO for 27 days. One of my friends who works with me got it as well and he only had 1 day of fever. 3 days later he was up and riding his bike. He is finishing his 10 day isolation tomorrow and back to work. Both guys are the same age and no other medical issues.
When I was a teenager my mother made the sweeping statement: " No one any good goes into politics".
50 years later I can see why she said this. In the UK where I am, those in charge of dealing with Covid 19 have made bad decisions right from the (late) start. The UK government appears to consist mainly of people lacking practical knowledge or basic common sense. I think many other countries have managed to elect inept, self-serving fools in much the same way as we in the UK have. Having said all that, perhaps it's also true that the politicians are no different to many of the people they represent.
Politics is rotten to the core. Some countries are worse than others and many folks go into it only to enrich themselves. Highly competent people stay away from it so who's left?
The story has been the same since day one. In this country it used to be folks entered politics as poor a paupers and retired multi millionaires on meager salaries. These days they enter bankrolled and just get richer.
Unfortunately when a crisis happens and things stop running themselves and you have people like this running the show you be in big trouble.
Like they say, you can rob folks with a gun or a pen. Some say using a gun is more honest.
The media plays a large role in allowing much of this to happen. Selective reporting, bias by omission yellow journalism etc. 90% of what's reported as.news.is opinion.
In whatever form of Democracy you live in the people elect the politicians so you get what you deserve. Keep in mind the choice is most often between the lesser of two or more evils. That makes it even more important to vote and vote wisely.
This pandemic is the perfect storm to test any elected government in it's competency to govern or not. It is also the litmus test of the voters who elected them in the first place to have made the best choices.
Bob
In a free society however it is harder to lockdown everyone. A communist regime or totalitarian one could do so easily. But we shouldn't wish for a better response to covid at the expense of our freedom IMHO. The Russians voted for Lenin because he told them they would stop fighting WW1 several months before it ended. And then they didn't vote for many many years after that. Everyone should.be responsible for themselves. Wear a mask face shield etc. Or stay home. I don't think these mass lockdowns are even legal.
The Govt has great power if they wish to use it and they most certainly can lock everything down.
But just think for one moment if instead of Covid it was Ebola and people were dropping in the street by the 10s of thousands each day in rivers of blood.
What would you do or want the Govt to do to protect you? What would you be willing to endure? What if these same folks refused to wear a mask then or socially distance?
You say this isn't Ebola? Maybe not but little is known of this virus and personally I suspect many of the folks who catch it and have few if any symptoms are going to find out in the future that they have severe heart problems or lung problems or many other issues. Those who require hospitalization will most certainly be in for it down the road. In a way it's like playing Russian Roulette with your life.
I hear you. However there are inherent risks with most things. The best thing they can do is give us the information. Anyone who feels threatened by it should definitely stay home. I wear a mask. I social distance. I can deal with that. But telling me I can't leave my house or cant work (self employed here) UNLESS THEY WANT TO COMPENSATE ME 100% is not acceptable. All I know is everyone who is getting paid in full doesnt mind staying home. But there's too many of us who do not.
Then what you are really saying is millions can die. You can't rely on folks to do the right thing by themselves because we see over and over again they don't.
My wife is a teacher and they say "well, if the kids sick they won't send them in to school" however under normal circumstances they send the kids in sick and when they start throwing up in school and complain not feeling well they say "I told mom but she said go in anyway".
You can't change human nature.
When they started putting seat belts in cars folks refused to wear them. Only ticketing forced them too. They didn't want to pay a couple hundred dollars for laminated windshields and padded dashboards and collapsible steering columns and a slew of other things that saved many many lives.
Hey, it ain't gonna happen to me until it does and you go flying through the windshield and get cut to ribbons.
I say let everyone who is willing out. Those that are not willing should stay home. If they never locked everything down we would have been done with this already. There's a big price to pay for the economic losses in lives as well. The amount of cancer cases not discovered early because people were/are too scared to go the the doctor's office. Lots of kids not getting vaccinated. Etc etc etc. The lockdown and it's repercussions are going to be worse in the long run imo than the virus. I'm 55 years old. So in the higher risk group. I live in NY and am in NYC few days a week. Nothing to be scared about. wear your mask. Social distance. First responders in.nyc had a much lower rate of covidbthan the general population. Take precautions. But live your life! Unless you don't want to. Then in that case stay locked down. And having said that I'm out. We need to end this already.
Assuming no zoonotic transmission, and no other natural harbor for the virus, had the entire world in sync locked completely down for the entire replication cycle of this virus, we should already be over this. But...

If I self isolate anymore than what I am currently doing my name will be changed to Hermit! :)

I haven't been out of the house since this thing started except for a few car rides where I didn't get out of the car. I have a dentists appointment tomorrow and that will be the first time being really out and I have a supply of N-100 masks which they say are not acceptable because they have a exhaust port in them.
My wife teaches and she can retire if she wants and if they decide to go back to normal teaching she be gone.
