I think I may have posted this to the wrong thread but either place is interesting.
Where in the heck is my Roadside Geology of Minnesota???
I can find Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho. Dewey has let me down again.......
Maybe it is in my truck or camper?
Driving up the road what you might think is just a bump/hill was the border of Lake Agassiz.
Maybe where some glacier stopped.
I recommend these for road trips where you have an interested navigator.
The Premier of the Province of Ontario in his news conference today released to the public the various Covid 19 models that the medicos have come up with. Basic gist of it is that between 3,000 and 100,000 Ontarians could die in the expected 1 to 2 years for the pandemic to run it's course. That is all depending on how we do at self isolation etc. I'd be pleased if this would be over by the end of April but something tells me not.

I am not a fan of Doug Ford but give him credit for the way he has handled the pandemic so far and actually released the modelling they have.

This isn't a new Virus as to precautions.. There are other Corona virus's that we have dealt with SARS and MERS most recently
The experts lied about the masks. it was very obvious, I have been saying it since Feb 1st when I told Family to buy N95's and that I would buy back from them if they were unused.
I use them anyway and P100's for the shop itself
But as soon as it was known to be a Corona Virus related to SARS and MERS I bought extra masks for the house and shop
I am NOT an expert nor a doctor but that was obvious
ps: Harbor Freight had Nitrile Gloves on sale for $5.99 per 100 in Feb too I bought us an extra box each
I found the Minnesota one to my left under the window at about ankle height....... So much for Dewey.

Lots of fun and I will follow the path with cheap gas and continue my social distancing.
Unless 100 other eccentrics are stopping at the berm of the last glacier.
Last night a good friend of mine and I decided we are eccentric not weird. :rofl2:
Don't waste your N95's or P100's unless you need them.
Dirty gloves aren't any better than dirty hands. Wash your hands.
I watched an idiot yesterday at the store complaining about many things while wearing gloves.
Then when he walked out to his car he threw his gloves on the ground and drove away.
Use some common sense. Do what your Grandma told you to do.
Stop it! You are starting to sound like me and my organizational skills--"Dewey, Dewey who--Do We Remember These"

" The seam up the back of her hose."
The best line of the song
just to be redundant. When the Doc told me that wearing a mask was to prevent you from spreading to them then I mulled that over and thought if they wear a mask too then what's the difference ? A barrier is a barrier regardless and if we all wore one then our worries would be a little less. so Apologies to all the Asian countries that we as a people may have mocked. Whenever someone farts over there a mask gets donned because they have so many people crammed in over there in those places and you know what.....good on them. We probably as Glenn states should all have been wearing one weeks back . Ounce of prevention ,pound of cure thing again. Coulda, woulda, shoulda, I'm taking Docs advice and getting a bandana or cloth mask and washing after every day of use . A cloth mask is better than no mask and I can't afford right now to search and procure a warehouse full nor can I keep up with the hoarders so …….And as a side note. I can't affrord anything right now because my card is on hold for ten days till I get a new one because some jerk got hold of my number and damn near cleaned my account out and I just got paid. Luckily I got enough groceries but it has affected many other things. I do believe that anyone who steals swindles or chisels or gouges anybody during this time of crisis deserves a little sumpin extra when they get caught. Lets weed out the selfish vulture xxxxheads can we please !!:banghead:
Also to clarify.....I don't consider buying and extra box of this or that as being a hoarder to be fair but those who clear out the shelves and do it weekly well think of your neighbors cause you could get shorted too and were all in this one together this time. I'm gonna go cool off now cause I'm still Po'd about my account....:tameshigiri:
Yes, it is from the same family of viruses but we have never dealt with this particular family member before. This Covid 19 has killed and infected multitudes more globally in less that 6 months than it's other family members or SARS. It is different and apparently exponentially harder to deal with for some reason.
Bob
The issue is you can have the bug and infect others and yet have no symptoms. By the time symptoms arise (and many never do have symptoms at all) you've infected who knows how many folks.
Additionally they are finding more ways this thing can infect you; sneezing, coughing, through fecal spray and even just breathing and talking. Also, it seems to infect different people in severely different ways. Some get nothing and some die.
In many ways it's the perfect bug from the viewpoint of the bug.
' Man and horses are failures . . . bacteria and viruses rule the world.

Something that I read somewhere . . .
Takes it as you will, works for me. take a HEPA filter vacuum bag cut up rectangles to slip inside and you got a reusable filter mask. Works for me. survive and help your neighbor survive !!

Shamelessly stolen
Just be careful because people are going crazy from being in lock down! Actually I've just been talking about this with the microwave and toaster while drinking coffee and we all agreed that things are getting bad. I didn't mention anything to the washing machine as she puts a different spin on everything. Certainly not to the fridge as he is acting cold and distant. In the end the iron straightened me out as she said everything will be fine, no situation is too pressing. The vacuum was very unsympathetic... told me to just suck it up, but the fan was more optimistic and hoped it would all soon blow over! The toilet looked a bit flushed when I asked its opinion and didn’t say anything but the door knob told me to get a grip. The front door said I was unhinged and so the curtains told me to ........yes, you guessed it .....pull myself together
Copy and pasted
I hope it made you smile
You either missed or ignored what I said
This isn't a new Virus as to precautions..
I never said the Virus was the same, I said the precaution protocols were
ie: The Doctors/Politicos/Expert talking heads Lied for over 2 months telling people to NOT wear masks of some sort
Also keep in mind that in every emergency room I have ever visited in the last 30 years there are Masks at the door and you are asked to wear one if you even THINK you might be contagious
We were told to IGNORE that common sense advice for the last two months by every one on every channel and in every article
Yup, I misinterpreted the wording for sure. Yup, if you "think you might be contagious" has been the common advice for a long time now. Unfortunately, many people who are spreaders of Covid 19 show no signs of bring infected so have no reason to even THINK they need to wear a mask.
Bob
Yup, my HMO has a sanitizing station with masks and signs saying if you have a rash call don't come in. It's right at the front door and has been for many years now. Few utilize it.
This is a magnitude problem now and I'm glad our President now says to wear a mask and is leading by example right?
Okay folks, pizzing contests splatter every one, 'nuff of that on other forums!
Find another way to participate, please!

Here's an interesting experience that I dealt with a few months ago, before this pandemic was named COVID-19. Back in early January one of my coworkers traveled to Guam for 10-12 days. Shortly after she got back to work she said she wasn't feeling well, (coughing, shortness of breath, the whole 9 yards). She worked her shifts the next 2 days before fever forced her to call out sick. She went to Urgent Care, she tested negative for the flu, they told her she had a upper respiratory infection, gave her a few prescriptions sent her home.
Shorty after that, another one of my coworkers got sick as well as my boss and subsequently his wife. Obvisouly I was exposed but I never felt ill nor my wife or children. I'm not a germophobe, but I have always be very vigilant not to touch my face at work or out in public and I constantly wash or use hand sanitizer at work. I have even carried hand sanitizer in all of our cars for years.
I have been off work for a while, we had planned a vacation the got canceled due to the outbreak. However last week I finally got to work again with my coworker who initially was sick and I asked her in hindsight did she think she had the virus and she said yes. Of course without her being tested for it at time, we'll never know for sure, so in the mean time I will still stay at home with the family as much as possible and take precautions. My work recently supplied us with masks and I'm sure when I go back to work on Monday it will be mandatory to wear them.
Luckily all of my coworkers and their families have recovered and are well.
Stay safe and take care of yourselves guys.
That's the crazy thing about this bug. Certainly old folks and those with health issues are in for it however even among young healthy people it can run the gamut from no symptoms at all to being on a ventilator.
I suspect the actual sick count is 10x what they say, maybe more much more.
There is an antibody test in development that has yet to be released. You may be able to find out after all. It would be interesting to know each year if you had antibodies to the current flu bug.
What is still flooring to me is that we (understandably) are taking great precautions but 10s if not 100s of thousands of people die each year from influenza. THIS year that many may die from flu and NO ONE is talking about that. You would think that we would be even more worried about it now.
If you are referring to the common seasonal flu as compared to Covid 19, the stats are out there. I think you will find the Covid 19 has killed far more. It is looking it will stick around for a long while and not go away as the seasonal flu does racking up even more deaths.
Bob
Just talked to our mail carrier where I work. a few folks in our local facility died from C19. The facilities in and around are swamped with no relief in sight and due to fear from the death, Dept. heads and workers are self quarantining and are a hair away from just walking out and shutting down The manpower is outnumbered by workload to ridiculous compounded by the fact they were short to begin with and hard as they have been trying, can't get anybody to hire on either because they flat out are not enamored about being postal workers but also because most can't pass the drug screen. Oh man it's just gettin good isn't it now.
I don't know where you are getting your news from, but we are hearing America has more infections of covid than any other country with New York city being overwhelmed with cases and lack of medical supplies.
A worrying trend is that ppe is being sold to the highest bidder instead of where it is needed most.
This is no normal flu, and I will quote our prime minister Jacinda Arden..
"There are still some people I would charitably describe as idiots"
I'm with Geezer on this now. I understand what Paul was trying to say so before this thread starts getting ugly can we refrain from calling people idiots or better yet try to understand what is trying to be communicated from others and be a little less semantic.nit picky or overly political. If I misinterpreted then I too am sorry but a little snark can turn into something that gets bigger which Ive seen here before and that was ugly .:beer1:
On a lighter note, I have perfected the art of social distancing.
I washed my hands for 20 seconds every 10 seconds as recommended, but I didn't shower for 7 days.
The darling wife started avoiding me after day 4, the 3 year old granddaughter managed 6 days before giving up.
12 days in with no bathing, I go to the supermarket and get a wide berth from everyone.
As sure as ear wax on a strop, it works for me...
Thank you Nightblade and I am going to overlook the snark as people are worried and I get that. I am not trying to diminish what is going on now. What I am saying is that we SHOULD pay more attention to influenza ALSO. This will likely dwarf the effects of influenza but if you look at how the flu effects.the world every single year we are foolish to discount it the way that we do. Perhaps this pandemic will make us pay more attention to infectious disease in general in the future.
I want to be clear that i am not dismissing Covid 19 nor am I comparing it to the flu, nor am I being argumentative. I just want to explain what I believe is an important point.
This is not the source of "where I am getting my news from," but it has roughly the same information.

A few years ago I had type A influenza and it is possibly the sickest I have ever been. At one point I really thought I was going to die. It astonishes me that the populace as a whole seems to ignore the dangers as if they don't even exist. Maybe it's because type B influenza is nowhere near as bad. Maybe it's because people self diagnose incorrectly. For example an intestinal virus (gastroenteritis) is often called "stomach flu" which , by the way, is not a thing. Influenza is a respiratory infection. Whatever it is influenza should not be ignored. The same could be said for heart disease, stroke and any number of other health conditions. I may be a little hypersensitive about influenza because since I had a kidney removed (within a year of having that flu) I have been told that it is imperative that I get the flu shot since taking NSAIDS for that long in order to fight fever could be detrimental to the remaining kidney.
I think it is a good thing that people do seem to be taking this seriously and rightly so. Remember though that the last time we had a pandemic of this magnitude was influenza. Hopefully we will ALL take this as a shot over the bow as to how we think about health in general and take necessary precautions to stay healthy.
Let us not forget those on the front lines of this war against an unseen foe.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...ource=facebook
If we want to start comparing, well how many folks die in motor vehicle accidents or how many die by firearms or how many mess themselves up with chainsaws and it goes on and on. Certain things our society must endure and we chalk it up to necessity no different than a cave man going hunting and never returning and his clan dies.
Pretty much all the deaths from common season flu affects very old and sick folks. Younger healthy folks don't die from it. Yea, you can get pretty sick but you recover. This bug can kill anyone and make you so sick the seasonal flu seems like a cakewalk. Additionally, we don't even know about after effects on your body after you recover. Also just wait until next year. We don't know about this thing mutating. Remember the Spanish Flu hit the first season and it was mild. It returned next year and that's when it decimated the world.
We simply don't know about this Corona Virus. It's kind of like playing Russian Roulette.
An interesting irony about this. The hospital at ground zero in NYC Elmhurst Hospital is a city owned hospital. The neighborhood right next to it is called...yup you guessed it... Corona.
MOST of the.time it is old, sick and infirmed who die from influenza. The Spanish flu mainly effected young healthy people. You just don't ever know. Strains of influenza come and go each year and morph into something else. This pandemic could just as easily have been another influenza bug. A cave man hunting had certain risks he had to take to avoid starvation. Hand washing.and other simple precautions are easy to do and can help avoid spreading influenza and other things to those who normally are more vulnerable.
Edit: I'm not being combative about this. What I'm saying is we should have been doing this all along. Influenza has always been a danger to us and we've become complacent. It shouldn't take a pandemic to make us take these precautions. we'd all be healthier and our healthcare system would be under less strain if we would take more reasonable precautions ALL the time.
