Default Local news on Covid 19

An interesting story appeared in the local news about an outbreak of Covid 19 in an old folks home here. Basically it seems to indicate that even one dose may lessen the severity of infection as most who tested positive were asymptomatic shortly after the first dose. While the Covid 19 was still spreading in the facility nobody needed to go to the hospital for treatment or be put on a ventilator.

I think it also points out that even after having a second dose those immunised should continue with all the usual Covid 19 precautions as they may still be able to spread the infection. Looks like it will not be until some time after the population of a country has enough people vaccinated to reach herd immunity, 80%?, will/should the usual precautions be lifted. That won't make a lot of people happy.

I didn't get that from the article as the spread was happening shortly after the first dose, but it is interesting info regardless. It would be interesting to see if there is still spreading a few weeks after the first dose.

I'm fully vaccinated but still observing everything that the CDC is recommending and even being a bit conservative on that.

I was in the local Ace Hardware yesterday and seen an employee helping a customer without a mask. Not around his neck and not an uncovered nose but didn't have one. After she got done with him I asked her why she didn't tell him to leave and return with a mask. She said her boss said it goes against the customer's rights to not wear a mask and she is not allowed to say anything to the customer about it.

Now I'm not hip on all the rules and who made them but I'm sure it's a LAW/RULE that they have to be worn inside a public store. There are signs on the doors going into the store. So I contacted the Ace hardware store through email and received this morning a reply that said basically the stores can do what they want being privately owned. I replied with the fact I thought it was a law. And I will tell the local newspaper and TV stations about this and I will never enter his store again. I will also tell everyone I know to not go to that store.

I bet I won't get a reply at all. But it made me feel good writing it. I did send emails to the newspaper and tv station. But who knows what if anything will be done. It just makes me mad at how so many people think only about themselves and nobody else.

Sorry, I will stop complaining now. I'm still waiting on my first shot. The wife has another week or two before she gets her second shot. Thank you to everyone who will continue to wear a mask and follow the CDC rules even after getting the shot. It's going to take a while to get this under control and hit that 70 or 80% they say is needed.

You are right, the article did not say that directly I extrapolated that from what the article had said. The facility was entirely vaccinated 04 March so it has been, for all practical purposes, 2 weeks on. Believe me, when I do get vaccinated I will be carrying on with all the recommended precautions as before until it is past where our population can be comfortably said to have reached herd immunity level percentage vaccinated.

It depends on the state. AARP posted this list.

Not to poke fun or even disagree but just to interject a little humor:
That reminds me of the old joke from the 80s

Here in the land of Manana they be pretty strict about masks all all this. It's rare to see someone without one and we are still in partial rules for businesses. Schools reopen 4/5.

I was out hiking the other day and saw a brown bear with a mask on and he had a suitcase. I asked him where he's going and he said he's had it and was going to Arizona.

Was he clean shaven or was he just wearing the mask for show and huffing and puffing out the sides?

You are in El Paso County in Colorado your county sheriff and county prosecutor is going to decide on Laws

Although there are several institutions that may pass edicts and health rules those two people decide on the "Enforcement" of those rules

Unless your legislators made it a Law then enforcement is subject to interpretation, as far as I know the CO legislator did not pass any laws

City codes can be enforced BUT they still have to go through the county

Here in our state we are much the same, it doesn't much matter what the State, Health District or Cities proclaim, our Sherriff and Prosecutor said point blank "We are not enforcing unconstitutional "Rules"

Now as a private business in CO you can refuse business to anyone for any reason other than Federal Civil Rights violations

So they can Trespass them, but that might get a little sticky in court in CO, trust me been there done that many times in the Springs

Here even back in June they were not enforcing the Statewide Mandate

In these parts you ignore the mandate as a business and the state starts levying fines against you. If need be they haul you into court. If public officials refuse orders (and some have) it's really a lot of bluster because they can be civilly sued and it's hard to defend your actions when the mandate is pretty much in black and white.
