I filed on-line
I filed my taxes on line. Two days later I have a spam phishing email directing me to a false IRS website and asking for me to put in some confidential info to get my rebate. The rebate amount was nowhere near what I'm supposed to get.
Luckily I double checked the actual website. Although its very, very, similar its not the same website.
Another close call.
You guys may want to inform your significant others of this potential scam.

Sad...these people need to be buggy-whipped.
No legitimate website will ask you for detailed personal information. Also, if you get a suspicious email, do not click on the link in the email, but go to the original link you used or type it anew in your browser. Then you can check for any info requests.
AFDavis, did you forward the link to the IRS? I'm sure they have some folks who would love to find the spammers.
My favorite spammers/scammers are the nes who send out emails asking for info at banks where I do not have an account.
My bank will not even email me back, other than to tell me to go to the website and log in to read their responses.

I don't think my gf forwarded it to the IRS. I was so busy trying to stop getting her to mess with it and convince her it was bogus. Once I showed her the quaky URL she got it and by then (in a little frustration) I said "Now get rid of it". We did report the spam to AOL though.
It was amazing how perfect the website matched the real IRS page. There was only one slight difference in a picture that had been uploaded. Scary.Last edited by AFDavis11; 02-08-2008 at 11:19 AM.

I get these all the time. (not from the IRS offcourse) I never go into any of it. If a company loses my info they can make an appointement and I'll come to their office.

Countries that allow wide-spread spamming and scams (like Nigeria) should be cut off from the Net until the government puts proper safeguards in place.
