    Default Donation(s) Sought . . .

. . . and not shaving related! My high school junior son and nine of his classmates are going on a Christian service visit to a ghetto in Equador over his spring break (on March 20).

The students are encouraged to leave their clothing they take for the community they will be visiting. The temperature average in this community is a year round 90 degrees F. If you have access to "Scrubs" doctors wear or Religious Americana motif tee shirts and can contribute 100 adult size medium and large, I will be sure to get them to the students.

Please PM me if you can assist (I'll pay for the shipping!). Please post any other suggestions to help this group of admirable kids!

    Thanks, RalphS

    Hey Ralph!
What a great thing for the kids to do on spring break. I don't know if I have an outlet for such things but a few sugestions. Steve and Barrys (a clothing outlet store nearby) have scrubs for around $5, and of course there is always goodwill and the salvation army. I'll ask around for some other outlets.
As for our other members, here is a group of kids doing a great thing during a standard "me time" for most teens. I say let's stand up and try to help these kids out. Even if a little paypal gets them to the goal. RalphS, Please add some more details and an end date.

    Default Thanks for the ideas!

    Jerry:

The kids attend Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and anyone who wants to can make a cash donation to that school and label the donation "Equador Fund". The school's website is: http://www.walshjesuit.org/. Most of the kids have conducted a sponsorship drive and have collected funds to pay their individual round trip air fare, room and board of $1400.00 per student - so, not only are they giving up thier me time, they needed to find their own way to fund the trip! Every dollar they raise beyond the cost to go will be donated to a charity that attends to the needs of the residents in the community they will be visiting.

They will be in Duran, Equador. They will be staying in a Catholic retreat house. I found a web page where elevin students from the University of Albany did the same thing: http://www.albany.edu/main/features/.../ecuador.shtml

While it is very kind of you to consider helping them raise cash, I thought an "in kind" donation of "cool" clothing would be a way to also help them out. I thought one or more forum members might have an "in" at a professional sports team, other pop culture establishment or religious organization that could supply some overstock tees or doctor scrubs. Also, deflated soccer / basket balls, reduced injury factor baseballs, baseball caps all come to mind too.

The students leave on March 20. They will return on March 29. Sorry for the short notice -- but thanks to all who considered donating. Thanks also for prayers for their safety!

    RalphS
