Seriously though, I agree with being a good steward and responsibly using our resources. However, resources are here to be utilized.

Even though there's no evidence or source given to show that it was green activists rather than nazis or aliens who trashed the park, and even though the park was actually trashed the day before (volunteers cleaned it up on Mother Earth Morning), I think it is safe to say that fox news still gets the general gist of the story completely correct: which is that The Earth has tolerated people for a long time and probably will continue to do so in spite of their disregard for what it wants
Earth First!
We can strip-mine the other planets later.
My contribution at work today was drive 100 miles in heavy traffic, in a 2004 F-150 Ford pickup that routinely gets 12mpg and leave it running for the better part of 8 hours as it was pretty warm today and the emergency beacons and strobe lights on my truck drain the battery rather quickly.
We did however, recycle about a ton of bent guardrail and guardrail parts.
The contractors are glad to recycle that junk. They pay for their beer with the money it brings.
WIN WIN!!

I try to reduce waste and consumption of resources using the following:
- straight razor and all that implies;
- recycle as much as possible;
- have an old diesel car (sure, it is smokey, but the bill for the incorporated energy has been paid a long time ago);
- folding bike
- cycle as much as possible: no distance under 8 to 10km calls for the use of the car if I'm alone;
- use the car for long distances and try to carry as many people as I can (not always a success...);
- use power-saving light bulbs;
- eat at home and avoid fast food restaurants;
- intent to use re-useable diapers when my son is born.
There are many more things to be done in the future but this is what I can do at the moment.
I agree.
If there is a point to our existence, we should use those resources to work towards developing ourselves further.
If there is no point, then we should just use those resources for our own convenience.
In the latter case, we could of course elect to go survivalist, live off the grid and don't use any resources.
However, why would we, since if all is pointless, using them makes as much sense as not using them.
I crashed a oil tanker and ruined an entire Eco system
Yes I do and it's obvious that you fail to realize that we have passed the point of no return. The every bit helps , turn off lights drive hybred cars reduce carbon footprint idea is too little too late. Solar power hydro power etc too late there is nothing we can do unless.... About 2/3rd of the population dies. On a personal level most people are not going to stop driving manufactures are not going to stop making and you my friend will not stop consuming. It is end game. But if you want to drive less consume less ,take less medicine cool more for me and mine untill the GOV steps I'm and takes it all for preservation of god and country.
Seriously that's what you understood ? When did I blame the GOV and which one was it ? There will never be a resource developed which can replace good ol petroleum the ROI is too great. Greenies are a funny lot save the tree posters printed on paper . Anti whaling done with petrol Motors. Grousing about the enviro on computers made from what ?powered with what ? Give up ? Tell you what, you give up on conveniences and me and the rest of the world will take up the slack. Oh and don't drive don't fly power your life with wind or solar and still it makes 0 difference , but you get to feel all warm and smug because you are green . Well merry x mas use a fake tree . Oh snap , petro. Use a real one .. Oh man forest depletion. Can't win can only loose.
When did you blame the Govt? your words "untill the govt steps in all for preservation". There are many resources that can replace oil. Paper is highly recycled now and its a renewable source! And it has nothing to do with giving up conveniences it has to do with being smart about using.
And your saying if i power my life with wind and solar it makes no difference?? really do you hear what you are saying! and by the way christmas trees comes from tree farms not the forest!
Clarification due to lack of . Gov will step in and take absolute control of energy to keep the great war machine moving .
I live not in the US but it matters not, all gov are the same. Ok tree farms hmm let's see does that really matter ? How are they cut ? What is used to fert them what is used to transport . Bottom line for any argument you can use is going to be flawed because modern life is so dependent on a fuel that is finite and the usage of is prevalent in every aspect of life from food to insulation to clothing to medicine to ad nauseam . I didn't make the rules but I will play by them until it's all taped out. Or I can no longer afford to. My point is that turning off lights or doing all the save the planet drivel is only to provide the illusion of effecting change the reality is its just too late and I don't care to lie to myself or or to others nor does it seem honest to be smug about going in circles with my head in the sand. Ymmv . Facts support my stance but I am too busy enlarging my carbon footprint to link to them for you .
Well, it ain't over till the fat lady sings. I don't believe we're anywhere near the point where it is 'too late' to do anything.
Too late to reverse the damage we've already done... perhaps. I am not qualified to judge.
But not too late to live with the results.
Besides, there are other good reasons to not just waste because of indifference.
The more efficient we handle our resources, the more we can do with them.
I didn't mean to imply the ship has sunk but we are about at the 5 min till mark . Nor do I think we need to squander any resource. But it does matter that at the level we are that what we can do I'd hope for the best because the whole end of times mentality means jack . When the powers that be decide they need what's left to support the ruling class we are all screwed. There are currently two classes of people on earth rich and screwed as this becomes a wider divide there will be slaves and gov (big biz) I am no survival guy nor do I give a rodents arse about it all. But I think as I said before no reason to refuse all comfort I can afford to give myself and my family.
So.... gas up the Roadrunner, put the top down (see my avatar?) and open up all 4 barrels dumping as much leaded fuel (oh yeah...I still get racing lead-added gasoline...welcome to the eye-stinging 70's bitches) and race against the Viper (that little red splotch is the nose of my cousin's Viper) until we hit us a manatee! (because ummm, we live in Miami Beach...)
HEY! How many environmentalists does it take to screw in a lightbulb? ANSWER: "That's not funny!"
Really ? Ok if you say so.
Happy early Earth Day! For this earth day, I have released a bunch of aerosols into the atmosphere to help bring down the earth's fever. I know I am only one person, but I made a difference to me. Please do your part, and share here what you have done lately to celebrate our dear mother earth
I bought a Prius! It's manufacture put more hydrocarbons into the air than I ever could with my 69 Road Runner. Just in case though, I had the Prius crushed so It can be made into a Chevy Volt. Meanwhile I am driving the Road Runner with lead added into the fuel (gotta keep those valves lubed) to the Fisker dealer because I heard they are on special.
I changed the oil in my truck and SUV and recycled it in my backyard instead of throwing it away at the gas station.
Ha! Shades of the pigtail light bulb (which apparently should come with a complementary hazmat suit). I think before Fisker goes belly up they should build a free car for each and every person in America that stood up their company (or at least our share of the up front money). You gotta love stimulating another country's economy while America is looking more like a banana republic every day. Oh well, guess I'll have to make a daquari out of my banana. Boat drinks, boys in the band ordered boat drinks, visitors scored on the the home rink! Silly hippies, global warming is a hoax!
Heck, Geezer and some of the rest of you have been up to his earlobes in the white stuff for the last eight months! What's up with that?
When i was young guy i cared very much for the Earth when a family member would have trees cut down i had real sadness.
Not anymore i love axing away at a tree.
I never worry thinking about the wasted food for not finishing what one the plate when i eat out Restaurants waste tons of food any how.
Plus if i couldn't finish it's cause it lacked flavor and in that case i not trying that place anyhow.
It's crazy how many eateries sell food not seasoned just right.
Like someplaces would waste lots of fruit cause they want them in nice little balls. There is a special tool just for that one thing.
I honestly learned to not really worry about waste of anything.
But well if i ever got a Eatery of my own it would reycle and compost almust no eateries reycle the metal tins or glass containers things come in.
What i tend to really hate in life is reading someone's face and learning they are lying to my face.
In the morning when I shower I pee in the shower instead of using the toilet water conservation is important.
What would really help the Earth is to pick a place you eat out at the simple question do you reycle and compost.
Cause it stupid how much steel goes into landfills every year. Cause of so many old farts want to just keep doing things
the old way. Cause must of the trash from any eateries is biodieable or reycleable. Theres added trash from people being lazy.
and wraping containers with plastic wrap it's like serious get a lid from the storage room.
When you eat out don't let the server put the left overs in a container for you their just going to use their hands littery.
I cut down some trees and poured used motor oil in the local river. I also burned some styrofoam.
Life is hard enough without making it any harder folks. I understand some of you may get that warm feeling inside from helping good ol' mother earth, but as someone else said, while GE and DOW and all the others (India, China..etc) wipe out years of hardship by one of you guys in a few minutes each day, why make my life harder than it already is and use up even one more precious minute of my free time to expend one less carbon?
Heck, I even tried! I looked into the WVO movement and started looking for a nice used diesel Mercedes...but guess what I found on the WVO forums? Have you been there? Go and take a gander and read all the America bashing and hatred towards their own country and government. That's great PR assholes...
I'm the first one that wants to get off the grid...and there are millions more like me..BUT WE AREN'T GOING TO SPEND PRECIOUS TIME AND MONEY TO DO IT. My mission in life is not to spend every weekend trolling alleyways for waste vegetable oil and building a processing plant in my garage where I will spend hours to make fuel when I should be using that time to help my kids do homework or on a walk with my wife. Sorry
I even tried going CNG... because it's better? ok...maybe, but more because I would never have to go to gas pump again! AND because it was the same or maybe a little cheaper than getting a regular gasoline car...but guess what? None of that nonsense in Miami.
When are the environmentalists going to get it into their heads that until you make life EASIER and CHEAPER for people no one is going to sign up?
At this point it's like a religion. I respect your belief, but don't try and make me feel bad because I don't see things your way.
Good ol Grayling,place of my birth......like the tree falling in the forest question, if you pee in the woods, does anybody see you ?
LED's........CFL's bother me as the new light bulb because they have mercury in them. I have been told that is low impact and that their are places to dispose of them,but here's the problem. 1) multiply the number of people in this world using and disposing of CFL's and I would say contaminated soil and water problem coming down the pike in the future. 2) educating all the people as to where to dump said bulbs and then also hoping they properly do so is unreaslistic.
That's why I light my house up with good old incandescent bulbs. I gotta be able to dim those suckers!
I have no car.
I have no children.
