heh ... In the War of 1812, Canadians sided with the British being still mostly British themselves. The Americans invaded Canada so Canada invaded the U.S., capturing considerable American territory, including Detroit City. We burned up the White House then too. That’s why it’s called the White House, because they had to paint it to hide all the scorch marks. It used to be pink before that. … You’ve got Canada to thank for that. … They don’t tell you that in your history classes do they? ";"

On the other hand, it is true that some Americans at least did invade and occupy portions of Canada. It was done in the late 1860s by a group of largely Irish Civil War veterans. They invaded and occupied Fort Erie and environs before they had to surrender due to lack of supply (the U.S. Navy began patrolling the Niagara River).
It's true, and you can look it up. Google the "Fenian Invasion."
Their motto: "We must invade Canada, for we've nothing else to do!"
I think the proper term for a person who is from the United states is a " US citizen".
In some ways better than " A subject of Her Britanic Majesty"
I don't like being subjected to our government, the "American" didn't like it either, 200 or so years ago.
Great Britain is a term used by those with cups half full (Dreamers). Scotland, Wales and England is the terms used by those with cups half empty, or as I prefer.....REALISTS :)
