Clinton stealing Obama's thunder

I'm a Republican but vote Democrat when I think it makes sense, so I'm more or less independent, so that's my vantage point. But I can't believe Clinton is STILL trying to steal Obama's thunder. I find it amusing because it helps my party, but I'm just dumbfounded that she has given up now but is still talking like she won, rather than being gracious and congratulating Obama and marvelling at the historic nature of his WIN rather than the hisotric nature of her LOSS. Being close doesn't mean anything - just ask Al Gore [and all of us that have had to live through eight years of Bush Jr. - if only we'd had eight years of Bush Sr. instead, but I digress].

I also suspect this is as much a character flaw as it is tenaciousness - she just can't accept that she lost and that it's not her show anymore. And I really really hope he doesn't pick her as VP or he'll be dealing with this all campaign [there's the independent in me - the Republican in me hopes she keeps shooting her mouth off and scaring liberals into the arms of McCain].

Does anyone understand what Clinton is doing? Anyone see some useful agenda there that I'm missing in just seeing a really arrogant bad loser unable to give the winner his well earned props?

And by the way, why do we call Clinton a Democrat when she doesn't want to honor the democratic process [that's a joke reference to the America thread - please don't answer that].

I hope you are wrong, but your point makes me think again, why is it that so often it's the self-righteous liberals that make race such an issue? So sad. The country has come a long way on racism and sexism [we're not done, but we aren't where we used to be for sure], and leave it to Hilary to push it back in the wrong direction because she's throwing a hissifit. She is one bad bad loser.

I think these are her options: She can concede (Never). She can kill Obama. She can run as VP, and then kill Obama. She can dig up dirt on Obama, and then force him to concede. She can run as an independant. She can bribe the superdelegates (Very likely).

The independent candidate point is a very interesting one. I hadn't thought of that. My guess is she is way too entrenched with the Democratic party, and has a shot "next time," so wouldn't do that. But if the rumored "whitey" tape surfaces after the convention or something else destabilizes the Obama campaign it's not inconceivable she could jump in. I wonder when she'd have to register as an independent candidate to get in. But I'm stunned she hasn't made a gracious concession speech yet.

That flawed character is why I never though she would win anything (New Yorks residents proved me wrong there). Her attitude has alway rubbed me the wrong way.

I also hope she keeps going and hurting Obama throughout the general election.

I could live with McCain or more accurately the Republicans much better than Obama and his socialists but either way I'll be voting Barr come November.

My point was I'm surprised she hasn't congratulated him for winning the nomination. If you saw that video and didn't know the facts, you'd have thought she won. She congratulated him "for all he has accomplished." That's what the winner says to the loser.

I don't think that's the case - she's just positioning herself into getting as much leverage as possible. She seems to have lost the nomination, but that was rather close, so she wants to get as much as possible out of it. That's just being pragmatic. Whether it's appropriate in this situation is another issue and you'll find people on both sides of that argument.

My opinion is that she can't secure a VP nomination that early - Obama isn't that dumb, so by not conceding quickly she just looses the opportunity to pretend she's not a sore looser (and no matter how they play it all politicians are sore loosers).

I hope she really doesn't need a time to reconsider the situation, as that'll mean she's been very arogant and delusional over the last few weeks and not have an exit plan in place. From what I've seen I think more likely this is her exit plan - while still having some sort of leverage to push for place on the ticket. If that's the case it certainly shows determination but I doubt that's the top quality Obama is looking for.

She is very arrogant. Despite the fact that I don't think Obama is all that bright I don't think he is stupid enough to under any circumstances put her only one of his heartbeats away from the presidency. I mean the secret service doesn't provide food tasters and he has to sleep sometime.

From the coverage tonight, it looks like she was going to keep clinging to her obsession as her future rotted away, but her supporters in congress told her to cut it out and concede. I think we've gotten a look at her character that people won't forget. Had she been a gracious loser and got out a month or two ago, she'd be the prohibitive favorite in 4 or 8 years for the Democratic ticket. Now I bet she's done - after being effectively knocked out, she has injected all kinds of racial and gender animosity, and single handedly planted in everyone's mind the idea that Obama can't win. And why do all that AFTER being effectively knocked out. Because she is a divisive stubborn obsessed politician - not a leader. Buy bye.

Anyway, good news is we finally can get down to an election between two interesting and decent candidates, and the creepy crazy person is out of it.

I read yesterday that the difference in delegates is 10%. If that happens in a general election, people call it a landslide victorym so it was not that close.

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who sees this.

This display from Ms. Clinton is an example of why she will never get my vote. Personally, I feel that these quoted actions above are a perfect example of a candidate who should not even be considered for that seat in the US government. Her constant campaigning tells me that she cannot view the writing on the wall. We - as a country - need someone with more intelligence, grace, tact, and personality for the office. She's proved (to me) she doesn't have what it takes... and it's not because she's a woman .. or something just as silly. Her actions are enough for me. Actually, I think the crying bit in the Mass. (I think) primary sealed the deal for me. Leaders of a country ... any country .. dont publicly weep over being critisized during the critisizing. That was the point during her running when she went from -possibility- to -complete joke-. She can't take the heat.

The last thing I would want is the pres. of the US to turn on the water works during an international political meeting.


Clinton certainly doesn't repersent me... and I dont think she ever will.

absolutely, and it's not just that - they've been saying since before Ohio and Texas that she had no chance to catch him on the numbers based on the most positive plausible results she could get - she just stayed in because she hoped to win by cheating - either gettying the Mich or Fla vote in the most Hilary postitive way and convincing superdelegates in back rooms to throw the black guy under the bus. She is revolting even by political standards. This race was over after Obama won ten straight and if she had any class she would have dropped out and congratulated him then.

What ever her reasons, the dems are getting all the TV time . . . McCain gets forgotten! I realize there will be five months until the election, but it seems to me that there is an organized effort to keep the tv cameras on the names Obama and Clinton. Next chapter (after who will be Obama's VP): Will Hillary run as an independent (write in)?

She will siphon off support from Obama and ensure McCain takes the election.

I have no love for McCain; I don't trust him either but given the options he is it as far as I can tell. I just hope he opts for Romney as VP. We need a business leader vice a bureaucrat in a position of leadership.

It is highly unlikely she'll run independent. That would be political suicide. The democrats would drop her for ruining the presidential race. Neither Obama or Clinton would have good odds of winning in that scenario, so it'd be a lose-lose situation for her. She wouldn't win AND she'd ruin her own political career.

Terry McAuliffe, Howard Dean etal, and the DNC put the most shrill and far left candidates forward that they could. I guess they figured that after G W Bush this is their chance. Backed by BIG money, Soros etal, they have whipped up noise from the base. In the general election, IMHO, the Democrats will be thrashed. The Democrats have relied on the guidance of failed personalities and it will continue to serve them as it has in the past.
