Ok, so there is a new "do gooder" law taking effect on July first here in Ca. . I don't know if it is federal or just for the state of Ca., but because of this law I have been forced to become Borg...That's right, I got one of those blue tooth ear pieces so that I can take calls of a business nature while I am driving! Anyone else hate these things? The next step will be having a communications device surgically implanted and operated by brain waves! I hope I am long dead before that day arrives!

You can blame it on the thousands of valley girls driving the beamers that daddy bought them, so intent on their cell phone conversation that they forget they're operating a motorized vehicle.

Been that way in DC for a couple years now (minus the valley girls, for the most part). But most phones have speaker settings, which satisfies most state laws. Or are Callie laws still crazier than anyone else's?

I actually like those when using them during driving or while I'm cooking. HOWEVER, I can't stand it when people just walk around with those things in theirs ear, just waiting for the important phone call, that they can't take the time to put the phone to their ear to answer. I almost refuse to talk to someone that has that in their ear, because they are sending the message that they are ready to interrupt any conversation they are having to take the next phone call, no matter what your conversation pertains to. I have actually directed someone to take it out of their ear before I would begin to speak to them about the subject matter of our meeting.

You see these people all of the time in stores, youll hear them speak and turn to adress them and they are there talking to themselves. What a pisser. It is better than the people who are texting while driving. IMO it should all be out lawed while driving.

agree 100%. we had a bad commuter line crash because the driver was talking on her cell and hit the gas pedal instead of the break when approaching another train. She's dead now.

I don't think it's safe to talk on the cell, handsfree or not while driving. When driving you should have your mind on the road.

What's different for me about talking to the passenger is that the wife's always there to yell at me if I'm weaving out of my lane or not stopping when I should be.

I think it's a little misguided. While not using the hands is a part of the risk with driving, the biggest risk is the distraction of holding a conversation. Plus this does nothing about the new added risk of people texting/reading e-mail while driving. Anyways, so many BT headsets are junk, if you must, stick with a good wired headset.

Actually, studies have shown that picking up or putting down is the most dangerous. Especially putting down the phone. At that moment the mind is totally distracted and there is a higher risk of accidents.
