As with anything, I suspect the truth lies somewhere in between the two versions. I'm not a huge fan of any of this current crop of candidates, to be honest, but no one resists completely the entire time. It simply isn't likely. What one considers "torture" probably comes into play a bit also, as do all sorts of psychological processes involved with the captor/captive relationship. I doubt seriously that Sen. McCain was constantly tortured without mercy, but I also do not doubt that it did happen at least once or twice. Really, only Mr. McCain and the guards themselves know the truth.
Most people give at least some quality information in just a few days, if the interrogators are skilled enough at altering the reality of the captive. 5 years? at this point, it is likely any really useful tactical/strategic information Mr. McCain may have had was already moot, and indoctrination for propaganda purposes was probably more of a goal. Mr. McCain, after all, was a Navy pilot, not the mastermind of operations still in the works.

    Just my thoughts....

I AM NOT A MCCAIN FAN!! That being dramatically emphasized, I'll say this, the little b@$+@rd is lying. Of course they never tortured anybody, do you think the govt. of Viet Nam would let him say otherwise, as stated in the article the guy spends his time with his pet birds at his beachside estate. Do you think he would jeopardize this. It seems more like a backdoor attempt to back Obama, who I will not support either.

Lets see the BBC took the time to go to Vietnam, look this guy up, and then ran the story.........I think we can tell who the BBC would vote for.

If he isn't sticking with the government line with his comments I'd say his speech was scripted by the BBC.

Of course its not to often that you will talk to anyone and they will say "yea, sure we beat the crap out of him daily" or "torture, we were all about torture!" . I think his comments were pretty predictable.

It's not the torture issue that caught my attention, it's the fact that a communist who was none other than McCains captor endorses McCain!

I highly doubt that. The BBC are known for their (almost) unbiased reporting. In fact they're regarded to be the top news service when it comes to this.

Maybe it was NK government influenced...but BBC influenced is very unlikely.

I have no government! Oh... the other NK.

As a sidenote, negotiations with north korea are going so well that it's expected for the administration to request that congress take them off the terrorist watch list.
