Default Mamma Mia! or.... No thank you for the music.

I have just come back from seeing this latest concoction of claptrap at a local cinema. It is SWMBO's mothers 50th birthday today, so it was her choice. This is what I have learnt from todays excursion:

    1. It doesnt matter how many big name stars you throw at a movie (Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep.....) if you dont have a plot then the movie will be terrible.

    2. EVEN if you give the film the ENTIRE back catalogue of a huge 70s group to make a soundtrack, it will be unsuccessful WITHOUT A PLOT.

    3. You cannot base a film on a series of unconnected songs. You have to write the story and THEN add the songs.

    4. Pierce Brosnan cant sing. Dont believe me? Check it out here

    5. Julie Walters doesnt make a bad film.

    6. If you start singing in any film, everyone already knows the words AND the dance steps.

    7. Unknown actresses often remain that way for a reason.

    8. If you are going to make a terrible film and you fear it may not be a complete success, you may as well cram in every cliche possible, regardless of how implausible it might be. After all, how can it be going against the plotline WHEN THERE ISNT ONE!!?!

Anyone else seen it? And if you have, did you see a plot?

It's a broadway musical, what do you expect?

SWMBO wants to see it so bad, but I've firmly said she needs to find someone else to go. Plot=my mom is a filthy whore+lots and lots of bad singing+big names. Seriously, who funds this stuff? I just don't get it sometimes. Plus, how can three guys who all banged the same lady honestly come together and hang out? Screw that.

Hate to say it but it's British! Written by playwright Catherine Johnson from Bristol and first staged at the Prince Edward theatre in London's West End in 1999.

I feel I should apologise on behalf of us Brits.

Did you have to admit that if our cousins over the pond want to claim responsibility for the pile of pap we should just stay stum and let the world believe them, gets us off the hook

Oops! Too early in the morning. I'd not woken up when I sent it.

The Americans are partly responsible for the film version though. It's a UK/USA/Germany production according to IMDB

I hate Europop music, and ABBA are among the worst purveyors of this offense to my ears. I would not see this show on a dare.

    Sydney,

My condolences. However, I think you knew what you were getting into before you went to see the film, hehe Your punishment is self-imposed
