Pandoras Box?

If the governemt uses its wealth and power to influence trade, I hope they use it not to bolster US companies to a better than they deserve status, but to help break open some of the markets in parts of the world that have kept us out with their own company bolstering policies..

I think we would be better served if the govt. either threw out NAFTA/GATT or modified it greatly so that we can begin production here again rather than letting all the work go to the countries with the slave labor populations. The govt. gave tax breaks and incentives so the manufaturers could go overseas. They should reverse this policy and heavily tax those that choose to remain abroad. Tarriffs for imports and heavy taxation on profits made by expatriate manufacturers.

What like Canada? There are only three countries in NAFTA. Many Canadians would like to get rid get the of NAFTA too. US companies could no longer force stuff on the Canadian market that they can't use at home(methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT) ), and the Canadians could get the Auto Pact back, that required the big three to make cars in Canada. The US basically hasn't lived up to the deal anyways, when there is a dispute and it goes to court the US doesn't abide by the court's ruling anyways (softwood lumber).

And so Ive heard. So why not get rid of it?

That is they reported less than 1%, I give to charities and rarely claim it on my income tax because its charity and I don't expect to get money back because of it.

As there income grew there charitable donations grew as well in 2000 they earned $240, 505 and they donated $2,350 by 2006 there income was $1.2 million and they donated $60,307 or approx. 6% of their income which is approx. the same as 2007.

I wish I had a choice where it was spent :)
With the Charities I choose, I do have that choice. Mainly shelters, food and help for the youth that will be our future.

You've missed my point, tax is not charity. Taxes are used to pay for things which some (maybe a majority) expect the government to provided for the common good such as; snow clearing, road building, infrastructure in general, education, courts, jails, law enforcement, security ect. How do you think it would work-out if individuals had to decide where there individual tax dollars were spent, would you think that it was good to contribute $2.93 to the Department of Labour?

Those things could also be bailouts for industries that serve the greater good.

Another question what does everyone think would happen if by the end of the month another 3-4 million people became unemployed?

No Sir, you missed my point....taxes are not to be charity. With the proposed restructuring of our taxes, it sound like a real possiblility. I hope I am dead wrong. Where is all the money going to come from? None of my trees are sporting green leaves.

The things you mention such as roads, infrastructure, or ATC will not last forever. A hard spring thaw rips the crap out of roads here. The Tire and Alignment Shops probably have to hire extra help. If we have $10.00 in our pocket we can't keep spending that $10.00 and adding another $100.00 on the tab for tomorrow.

The stock market is not reflecting anything positive. I find the situation we are in, as a nation and as a brotherhood of our world, to be very unsettling to say the least. I hope to leave better to my Grandchildren.
