There was a guy in Minneapolis named Frank Storm who repairs pipes and had a whole mess of Peterson replacement stems. I don't have his contact info but I will try and get it and forward it to you. Any of GL Pease's blends are outstanding. I particularly like Robusto, Haddo's Delight and Caravan.

    Replacement Stem For System Pipes

I am a big fan of aromatic blends, usually Apricot Brandy or Highland Whisky, from my local tobbacanist. (delightful chap, does his own blending)

Call Peterson - go to their site and order it direct from the manufacturer.

Here's the link to get a replacement stem from them:

Looks like you have been advised of a good site to find a replacement stem. As far as tobacco goes, I have been smoking a pipe for almost 40 years. My favorite is a base of Virginia tobacco with a little Perique mixed in, or, what they call a Va/Per. Perique is a very unique tobacco grown only in Saint James Parish of Louisiana, near Baton Rouge. It is a relatively strong, spicy tobacco and not meant to be smoked straight. I enjoy all natural tobaacos, but for a beginner, I recommend slightly aromatic tobaccos, then graduate toward the all natural flakes. If and when you do that, I recommend Peretti's Oxford Flake, an all Virginia blend, then, my favorite, Peretii's London Flake, which is a Va/Per. McClellands Bulk Blend 2015 is also the same or very nearly the same. Flake tobaccos are very thick cut and moist, and smoking them is almost an art in and of itself. Lighting can be frustrating and they must be smoked very slow, savored with frequent, light tamping. Fast smoking will ruin the taste and make you wonder why anyone ever recommended the stuff, but, smoked right, the natural flavors are delightful, in my opinion.

There are so many pipe tobaccos out there and everybody's tastes are different that it is hard to say what I like you will also like. Even after 40 years I still find tobaccos that years ago I would not have considered smoking, such as the Oriental blends, but that I am now finding to be to my liking. You just try something that strikes your fancy and see if it clicks.

Another blend you might try is MacBarens Scottish Mixture, but always remember with any blend, smoke it slow and savor the stuff.
