My own martial arts teacher has explained how charlatans like Hinn knock people out by "laying on of hands." It involves the manipulation of the vagus nerve usually. Look at the part of the clip where Hinn walks down the row of men and pokes them all in the neck. Or the part where he slaps people across the lower jaw and neck. Or where he places his hands under the jaw line and pushes hard. That's it exactly. Extremely chancey, as someone may not wake up after being KO'ed one day. Will it then be blamed on Hinn's carelessness and reckless behavior and his cavalier attitude toward his follower's lives, or will it be blamed on the "will of god?"
I just wonder how all those other people will feel who joined in for the fun, faking it from a distance, when someone finally dies from it.
There was a Steve Martin movie a few years ago, very similar to that Lon Chaney film. A tent show evengelist fleecing every town he came to, even faking miraculous signs like tears coming from the statue of Jesus. Same real miracle with a crippled boy. Not a bad movie, but very sentimental. But the soudtrack wasn't nearly as entertaining as that of the two Hinn clips.
The con artists will never stop conning until the sheep are no longer willing to be fleeced. But there's always someone willing to be fleeced, as the wise Mr. Barnum noted.
Funny, doesn't it say somewhere in the Bible that a fool and his money are soon parted? Maybe the sheep should always read one chapter ahead of the shepherd so they know what's coming.
you don't even need to do that when you've got a bunch of willing idiots on your hands. i've seen the guy work, in person, and he usually just pushes on a person's forehead. it's less about pressure points than it is about droning music and a steady stream of hypnotic chatter.Quote:

I've heard several stories that amounted to what you have said, where people visited the church (not Hinn's) and an event like this took place. They were upset that they got knocked down by people in the crowd and knew it had nothing to do with a matter of spirit, though the people next to them claimed it was supernatural. The people I spoke to were not fooled, and were not going along for the ride.
Whatever happened to the old kind of miracles, like speaking or understanding languages one has no knowledge of? Raising the dead? Water into wine? That's showmanship! Jesus feeds thousands with minimal food, and these guys push people over. Hosea Williams' Feed the Hungry program is closer to a miracle than Hinn and these other guys' shows.
If they really wanted to experience the holy spirit, they'd follow Jesus' teachings. Instead they play the role of the hypocrite praying in the streets for all to see. Funny, that's one of the things Jesus said to avoid, if I remember.
It's bad enough to be a willing fool, but a hypocrite as well! I'm constantly dismayed at these kinds of people. They are exactly the reason I turned away from organized religion in the first place.

In the same spirit, handing over your life savings so that a televangelist can live the celebrity life is stupid as well. These people fall for the wizards first rule, hook line and sinker.
Unless you believe that God smites down people by the dozens because Benny waves his hand, this is a combination of self delusion (wizards first rule) and mass hysteria.
