    Default Fiat Empire

    Hmmmm...

If you have an hour to spare you might find this interesting. The film is from 2006, so may be old news to some. I had never seen it before. Also has a bit of a conspiracy theory feel to it....and obviously a plug for Ron Paul, but still full of good info. I certainly learned a few things.

FIAT EMPIRE - Why the Federal Reserve Violates the U.S. Constitution

I actually watched this, coming back to it in segments. Fascinating. Thanks for posting this, Scott!

I watched the first ten minutes of it and that's about as much of my time I would care to waste. When you have an agenda its really not difficult to slant some of the facts and have "experts" with the same agenda and put together a presentation that appears to be very convincing. People have been doing that for years.

Would you mind sharing a bit more of a detailed critique? I, and maybe some others, would appreciate learning your side. What facts do you feel were slanted? What do think was Ron Paul's agenda in creating this video? We all have agendas, don't we? Do you think that the featured "experts" were not representing the issue fairly?

I watched the video as part of my effort to bring myself up to speed on current affairs. I haven't made up my mind one way or the other. You seem to know something about this that may be helpful.

The deal about the Gold Standard may seem good sense however if we were on the gold standard now we'd be in a depression so deep it would have made the 1929 one seem like a picnic. The representations of what the constitution dictates or what Mr Jefferson did while seemingly patriotic and smacks of good fiscal sense can't be directly applied to our day. Those were very simple times with a tiny population without the complexities of our political and economic system. The constitution needs to be interpreted and it must be applied with an eye towards the times we live in. As far as Mr Paul goes I think we know what his agenda is. Just stay away from me with your big government because Government is the ills of everything. If your living in the wilderness and self sufficient for everything then you don't need government but just wait till some natural catastrophe comes along and guys like him will be the first demanding government come in and bail them out.

Just a few things I saw in the first 10 minutes.

I watched the whole thing which I found fascinating and prompted me to research this more (origin of The Fed, The Mandrake Mechanism, etc.). I don't feel this piece was slanted and from the bit of research I've done so far, it seems to me that the facts about The Fed's history and method of operation are, well, factual. Great info.

Regardless of Ron Paul's agenda, or not, the video has opened up a whole new range of research and inquiry for me.

What exactly is the Federal Reserve System and how was it formed, how has the Fed influenced our economy since it's creation in 1913, fractional banking, the "Mandrake Mechanism" creating money from nothing. Some things that I had heard of before, but just blindly accepted or took for granted. Others that I'd not heard of before. For instance, Seigniorage: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seignorage

I'll never look at a Federal Reserve Note in the same way again.

So the federal reserve is basically controlled by and operated for the benefit of private banks eh? Silly me, I thought their main job was to control and distribute our currency.

If thats the case I guess you could say the Post Office which is also a quasi Governmental outfit is really operated for the benefit of mass market high volume mailers and Federal Judges who are appointed for life and answer to themselves are there for the benefit of lawyers and are controlled by the American Bar Association.
