Smoking Smarties is kewl!

<o></o> There are a growing number of kids and teens out there that are crushing up the Smarties candies, pulling the dust into their mouths, and then exhaling the dust to emulate smoking. Nope I’m not kidding. The side affects include, but are not limited to: infections, chronic coughing, choking and even maggots feeding off sugary dust in your nose. I’m seriously not kidding. :rofl2:

no joke, when i was in the 5th grade I remember friends that would crush up smarties and snort them. I'd watch, but don't remember ever snorting them myself. of course, considering my memory problems and what not maybe I did.

I knew a kid that used to snort whole Pixi Stix. :shrug:

He was diabetic, and claimed he only did it when his blood sugar was low.

I recall being even more stupid at his age and inhaling the smoke from freshly lit strike anywhere matches. That was 30+ years ago. Between the two the maggots in the nose are probably less harmful.:shrug:

It was inevitable really. Once they banned sweet (candy) cigarettes, kids were bound to jump straight to the hardcore stuff. :)

there were candy ciggs when i was a kid, but all the cool kids (myself included) just smoked real ones. as bad as candy is for your lungs, i'm pretty sure cowboy killers are worse, hmm?

I find it ironic that he is crushing the smarties on top of a dictionary. I suppose that's the best use these kids have for them...

As a friend of mine used to say,"You can always tell a kid, but you can't tell him much." When I was in my early teens I knew a kid who used to soak transmission fluid in a rag, put it in a paper bag, and inhale the fumes. I believe that through doing it often he gave himself permanent brain damage. So these kids could be worse. Let's hope they don't graduate to bigger and worse things.

When I was a kid my friends and I would eat jalapenos or snort them if the dare was good enough, spin around a bat, and try to hit a fast ball which usually hit us. Simple stupidity: it didn't make us cool, we were the only ones doing it, and there were no long lasting affects. I swear the crap these kids come up with is mind boggling.

I'd love to read a report about PETA in on outrage from kids sniffing cat urine. :rofl2:

Same principle as glue sniffing. And yes, it damages the brain.

The biggest problem is that the kid thinks he looks cool. A joint for him is letting the smoke "roll out", not getting high (he wouldn't even know what getting high is).

Is it that kids these days are stupid, or is it that we have evolved and have become wiser because of the stupid stuff we did as a kid.

As a kid I watched my father burn the strings off of his uniform. I did the same thing to a flannel shirt in my closet. It was right as we were leaving to go visit my grand parents in Arizona. My pop yelled at me that it was time to go. I closed the closet and headed out of the house. As my pop was doing the last run through of the house he smelled smoke. The results of his investigation lead to him opening the closet door and now fueled with oxygen a fire started. The fire department was called, the contents of my closet were on the front yard, and I proceeded to get a butt chewing the whole trip from Colorado to Arizona.

Once we arrived my mother told me to tell my grandmother what I did. I explained myself, and my grandmother reminded my pop of the time he was playing cowboys and Indians and caught the barn on fire. That was the last I heard about the fire I started.

raghur is right on the money. it seems each generation is just a little less retarded than the one before. i used to think the stuff my dad did as a kid was mindbendingly stupid by the standards of children in my era (80s) and the stuff his grandfather did was worse still.

not to say i didn't do a lot of dumb things as a kid. but what didn't kill me made me stronger and smarter. there's a lot worse things for kids to be messing with than SUGAR.

I don't think less retarded, I think it is about access and lack of. for instance, kids have so much tv and so many video games to choose from. when i was a kid we didn't have those. I remember taking bic pens, pulling it apart, taking straight pens and these little red fletchings from a bottle brush looking bush that we have local, stick the needle through it. voila! blow gun. 50+ years ago my step-father took nails, rolled them in newspaper so just the tip was sticking out, and shot them out of a section of EMT. could kill cats with it. Most kids now don't have the time to figure those things out I guess.

same token you could get cigarettes easier when I was a kid even (I'm only 32), they had vending machines still selling them back then, I remember one in the hallway of Don Juan's restaurant where we went evey sunday. my parents would let my brother and I hang out in the bar waiting for lunch to get ready, they had a sit down Galaga arcade game.

I think that looking back on things we realize how stupid we were. I think also we understand now that no matter what your parents tell you human beings seldom learn from watching other peoples mistakes. I didn't listen to my parents say don't jump off the top of the water slide till I fell, almost breaking my back or worse, and 22 years later suffer because of it.

oh, and how about how we try to protect them from stupid only to their detriment? I never wore a helmet and pads on a bike as a kid. yeah, I got beat up sometimes, but I learned what not to do, not to try crazy stunts. and what pain felt like and why it wasn't such a good thing.

Then they'd stand upright and have someone basically give them the Heimlich maneuver until they passed out and dropped to the ground. :rofl2:Damn! It will be great to see these kids get older. The nursing homes are already starting to see 70 year old's with "perfect" breasts. When these kids get in it will be ear holes down to their shoulders, huge split tongues, holes all over their bodies and their junk, and tattoos that will look like mushrooms. I suppose now a days we have 'Helmets and Gloves', were you put on a hockey helmet and gloves and smack each other senseless until someone is knocked out...you don't get 'hurt' because the helmet protects your head from direct blows.. but the spinning and jarring of the head rattles the brain enough to render you unconscious...more brain damage. :gth

Since we are all divulging the stupid acts we did as children, then I have one for you...

When I was a child living in the south, our community had a mosquito problem. The problem was bad enough for the county to contract a pest control company to drive through our neighborhoods one evening a week with a "fogger" that billowed out clouds of mosquito repellant or poison (not sure exactly, but it wasn't good stuff).

My friends and I would chase the fogger truck on our bicycles and try to see who could keep up with the fogger the longest.

So, what were we just talking about?

How old are you Gatorfan? It may have been DDT. They fogged the streets with it here when they were trying to figure out how the hell to fight polio.

Now, this one sure makes me look pretty stupid... But I think this one is worse than smoking smarties. When I was young I'd simulate smoking by rolling up a bit of newspaper in to a tube, lighting the end on fire, blowing it out and then proceeding to just smoke rolled news print. If I can pass on one piece of wisdom from this let it be... those glossy coloured flyers have a subtle hint of burning marshmellow taste to them. ;)

I think I may be the only person who ever made the healthier choice by just smoking cigarettes like a normal idiot child.

I did that! Another thing we have in common Cobo, and yes, I remember the hint of burning marshmallow also! I also used to tear out pages of the bible and roll up some coffee grounds and smoke them. Got the idea while reading Encyclopedia Brown.

We chased the fogger truck in Stratford, CT too. I think they were killing the gypsy moth caterpillars but they let us kids breath that stuff in for hours.

We never used seatbelts or child seats when I was a kid. In fact my aunt used to load up her minvan with kids and I used to sit in the middle of the front seat on a medical splint stretched between the drivers seat and the passenger seat.

Get ready for Smarties to not be allowed on school grounds and such anymore. This is causing big problems in schools (my wife is a teacher) and has been all over the news.

I'm 48. We pulled this stupid stunt back in the early 70's. So far the only genetic effect is that both my kids were born nekked!
