Do you open doors?

I was just wondering if the average here was a little more traditional than what I see out in "the real world."

Last week my girlfriend and I were out running errands and doing a little shopping, and as I opened the car door for her she said, "I must be really spoiled. I think that's about the 20th time you've opened a door for me today, and I haven't seen any other guys do that today."

So, do you open doors for your wife/girlfriend/mom/little old ladies/etc.

Edit: When voting, please feel free to vote even if you are single, or gay, or whatever. You can even vote if you're in a wheelchair and CAN'T open doors for people, but always did when you could still walk.

This is more about the spirit of the poll than the specific answers.

Since I'm a woman, I could only vote with "NO OF COURSE NOT!"
.... unless its an elderly person or someone who's got the hands full or holding it open for someone who wants to get in right after me.
So I cannot vote.

Regarding going out with a man I'd say whatever you do besides good manners is interpretable. ;)

I open/hold doors for not only my ladies but all that happen to be approaching the same door as me. They seem to like it more when it is not a revolving door.

I amost always do, and for anyone else if their hands are full as well.

I assume SWMBO means women.

The real question is, do you give up your seat for a woman? I actually give up my seat for anyone who looks like they need to sit down. Anyone with a cane (male or female), the very old (man or woman), pregnant women, women with grocery bags, and women with small kids/babies. I don't give up my seat to girls my own age or younger if they don't fit into any of the above catagories (except for wife/girlfriend) simply because it seems like a smarmy come-on, and women would rather stand than be hit on.

I always try to open doors for my wife. But not the car door. I often have to hurry to get to the door in order to open it for her. She doesn't expect that a man would go to the trouble of opening a door for another person.
The reason I don't open the car door is because if I did it would mean my wife would have to sit in the hot car for a few seconds longer before the aircon kicked in. Even a few seconds in Thailand's hot weather can be a long time.

I voted No because the options were limited.
But when going through a door I hold it open for other people when I can, even if it slows me down for a few seconds. That alone makes me more helpful than most people IME.

I open doors for anyone. I hope it catches on, too. Wouldn't it be nice to live in a world where people opened doors for each other instead of showing each other "the finger" at every opportunity? I think so!

Is it an age thing? In the UK good manners are definitely on the decline. Growing up I was taught to open doors for females of all ages, but not only that, stand up when a lady entered the room, only sit down at the dinner table after the ladies etc.
Same with lots of things, like respecting one's elders and so on.

I hold open doors. I'll do it for women, children, the elderly & even blokes if they're in my way. Probably about 20% will thank me, so it's no wonder it's on the decline. My little town is full of what can only be described as the dregs. A lot of them are on government handouts, which they feel it's their right to receive so that they can stay at home. They're not used to having to be appreciative & the country has suffered a severe decline in many aspects under the current government.

I try to hold the door for anyone that is coming in that door at the same time...most dont thank you but a few do...and I probably open the door for my wife about 95 percent of the time unless we are rushing into the car or unless she beats me there...

I actually took a girl out one time in college and went to open her car door and she was like what are you doing. I said opening your door for you...she said she could do it herself and no guy ever tried to before. I said i was just doing the polite gentlemanly thing, she thought i was nuts.

My wife loves that I do it cuz she thinks it makes me look a little more like a gentleman than the other guys ...hahaha....no offense to any that dont open doors...just my little story.
You dont see this nearly enough especially those around my age...im 25...and the younger generations. O well i feel its the least I can do is hold the door for a few people.

I really hate the people that just walk in the store in front of you and see you are right behind them and wont even like keep the door propped as they walk in so you can grab it without it slamming in your face.
