I wonder why? It's unfortunate they are so easily offended

haha
just because it's old doesn't make it expensive !!!
I pretty much totally disagree with that. A shop should always be prepared to do business and they should always try and make the sale. There is ALWAYS room. This guy wasn't prepared to deal with me, and those razors will sit in those draws for months.
And anyway, who said anything about cheap? Fair is all you can ask IMO.
The guy was just rude.
true but he did back my position
hehe... ill haggle at a party store.
ill haggle anywhere if something is blatantly marked up.
there is stores that literally buy old on sale merchandise and then bring it back to there store and load up the racks.
i got the rude feeling just from calling certain antique stores, they were scoffing on the phone.
It's interesting to read comments about shop owners. I've been running my own small business for nearly 40 yrs. I try to be attentive and businesslike always. However, I can say, that as well as bad mannered shop owners there are some very obnoxious customers, fortunately there aren't very many but over the years but they can grind you down.
What amazes me is the vast difference in perception there can be between one customer and another. I know my prices are fair and comparable and many customers tell me so, but occasionally someone will ask for a large discount. I get the feeling that that type of person may tell as many people as possible that my price is too high or my attitude unreasonable.
I guess I haggle too. Many offers I make are accepted, or sometimes a counter offer is given. Once my offer was accepted so fast I think I should have made a lower offer!
Often I will make offers on multiple items -- "how much if I get *both* of these?" or "I'll give you $X for this *and* that." Sometimes I'll say "I was hoping to spend $X but I can go as high as $Z."
There was one case where the seller asked for an offer, seeing how interested I was, but what I wanted was so far out of my price range I didn't even think it appropriate to make an offer so I said I couldn't make an offer because the item was obviously worth more than I could afford and I didn't want to insult him. He said he had thick skin so go ahead and insult. I offered just under one third of the asking price and got it!
