Default Some people are just rude.

    I'm gunna vent here,

I went to an antique store, fully prepared to spend some money.

Basically, this guy would not have ****ed on me if I was on fire. He could not wait for me to leave his shop, and the things I was interested in were about 3-4 times the price of the things I was not interested in. It is highly unlikely I will set foot in that store again, and I have one or two that I visit on a regular basis and often part with cash - I could have given him regular, if small time, trade.

This guy could not have been less interested if he'd tried. He flat out lied about the stock he had, and didn't seem to appreciate that no matter how 'brand new' a razor might be, if it's no more than a lump of rust now - it's junk.

Initially, I thought it was just my age, but after hearing how him and his wife spoke to some other potential (and actual) customers, I think they're just rude.

    shame.

I ran into a similar store last weekend. After looking around and hearing the shopkeeper's blunt rudeness to various customers (yet he did not sound angry, almost as if he was happy to be rude!) I finally asked if he had any other razors than what I saw in a glass case.

    Him: "NOPE!"
Me: "Okay, you don't have any?"
Him: "NOPE! I don't do razors anymore, I don't do bicycles anymore, I don't do-
Me: "ok ok, so what are you asking for those razors in the glass case over there?"
Him: "$120 for the whole [barber] set"
Me: "So you do acknowledge then that you have some razors, but that you want so much for them that you may as well say you don't have any?"
    Him: blank stare
    Me: "Have a nice day"

    *sigh*

I think some people have their own shop because they are too rude to work anywhere else

one day I had some time to kill so I stood outside a door for about 45 minutes telling people they shouldn't go in because the owner was a tool
I told him I was going to and he was fuming mad because there was a big event that day and his shop was on the main strip.
He planned on a big day.
    I said things like " We're closed!"
    "oh... the sign says OPEN"
"Yeah well WE'RE CLOSED LADY I'M STANDIN HERE TELLIN YA WE'RE CLOSED!!"
After I had managed to turn away about 50 people the cops showed up.

Of course the "closed" people had gone on their way and I just claimed to be boycotting his business by telling people that the owner was EXTREMELY RUDE.
The owner came out and made a real spectacle and started threatening to SUE !! SUE!!

A cop turned to him and told him it wasn't slander if what I was saying was true.

I turned and saluted the officer, gave the shop owner the Hitler Salute and goose stepped my way down the sidewalk.
The guy was shouting at me as the officers tried to herd him back into his store.

"I'll see your rude, and I'll raise it to jackass!"

There is nothing more offensive to an antique store,or gunshop owner,or seller at a gunshow than a bargain hunter,or someone looking to "dicker" the price. If they get the sense you are either you will not get the time of day, just cause its old doesnt mean its cheap.............best Regards gary

    I dicker.
I'll get a box of ammo, or a cleaning kit, or I'll have them keep the scope.

I was looking at a rifle once that was slightly overpriced.
The seller was bragging up the scope so I asked how much the scope cost.
He proclaimed it to be a $400 scope.
I told him I had seen it for $120 elsewhere.
He had never heard of such a thing and sounded very skeptical.
"Must be a fake, etc etc..."
Oh no, I replied, the seller assures me it is real.
I assured him that an identical scope could be had for $120 as his interest piqued.
When asked where I had seen the other scope I held out $500 and told him to take that one off and keep it. (he was asking $620)
He was less than grateful at having been tricked.

The markup on guns is high.
    I'll dicker.

sometimes it is clear we are speaking different languages
    for example
    celluloid rot = vintage condition
    crazy hone wear= lovingly used
    heavy pitting= beautiful patina

I pretty much totally disagree with that. A shop should always be prepared to do business and they should always try and make the sale. There is ALWAYS room. This guy wasn't prepared to deal with me, and those razors will sit in those draws for months.

And anyway, who said anything about cheap? Fair is all you can ask IMO.

    The guy was just rude.
