I've got 3 .410's, and I love to shoot them, haven't experimented with anything else. The main reason I don't shoot anything bigger is physical limitations. My three are: a double barrel (side by side) Stevens which belonged to my Grandfather; a bolt action Stevens which I picked up because I thought it unusual. It was manufactured just prior to ww2 and the third is a newer Belgian made single shot that my Father gave me.

I agree. If the correct stance is used, not to mention proper shouldering, she should be able to stay standing as well as minimize recoil pain. When I first shot a 12 gauge at about 13, it hurt like hell and it knocked me back quite a bit as I recall. After that, my dad showed me how to properly shoulder it and stand correctly and it was like a different gun. Using proper stance, you can hip fire a 12 gauge without trouble.Quote:

I would not reccomend it as an all around shotgun. It is great for young people and experts. Those in between would be better served by the 20, 16 or 12.

The best quail shot I ever witnessed used an Ithaca Model 37 20 gauge pump with barrel cut to 22 inches. After the barrel was cut he put a huge ivory bead front sight on and used any kind of ammo as long as it was no. 8 shot and had a 1 oz. load of shot. He bought whichever brand was cheaper. Winchester, Federal or Remington. The barrel was cylinder bore after being cut.
He was deadly.
