    Default RIP: David Carradine

News is trickling in that David Carradine was found dead this morning in his hotel room in Thailand. He was filming a project there. Information is pretty thin at this point.

Carradine's role in TV's "Kung Fu" was probably a lot of folks first exposure to martial arts. I like the job he did as Bill in Tarantino's Kill Bill 1 & 2 as well.

Yeah, very sad news. I used to love that show. And he made a pretty mean Bill too.

The BBC is reporting that he was found hanged in his wardrobe and had been undiscovered for a day or two.

    We all have to go and he went too soon. He wasn't Laurence Olivier but I enjoyed the old Kung Fu series at the time. He is interviewed on Fresh Air (NPR) with Terry Gross on today's show. It will be available in podcast on the web later this evening. In the meanwhile ;

Kung Fu was one of my favorite shows of all time. Cane's character was like a mirror held up in front of humanity forcing us to look at our ugly sides.

Maybe a bit too poetic for a TV series, but that show did have many levels.

Carradine was a good actor. I loved kung-fu when I was a kid.
And I really like him in his 'Bill' role.
    Rest in peace, David.

This saddened me to learn of his death.

I hope he is at peace now. Wish he could have found another option than the one he took.

I read about this on martialtalk.com
One poster worked as an ER paramedic, and he doubts it was suicide. His idea is that it was something called 'auto erotic asphyxiation' because Dvid was naked and tied with rope. He said he'd seen this before.
Rather than a suicide, his opinion was sex play gone horribly wrong.

I wouldn't know either way, but I thought I'd mention it.

I hope he had a "happy ending".

If you died in that manner, would you rather the reports say it was a suicide, or tell the truth and say it was auto-erotic asphyxiation?

Both choices are pretty grim, but at least if they called it a suicide, people would know that you were in control in your final moments. You were likely mentally unbalanced, sure, but you made the decision to end your life for reasons that were your own. The other option is for everyone to know that you were a kinky dude, alone in his room, and you screwed up and accidentally killed yourself.

Anyway, it's sad. He was really great in the Kill Bill movies.

Autoerotic asphyxiation is the conclusion i came to when i heard. I mean, who tries to hang themselves in a wardrobe & ties the rope around other parts of their body that remain unspecified?
It's a sad end. Still, Michael Hutchence gave it credibility.
