That's pretty much the same thing I was talking about briefly earlier.

It is sad how easily people are duped by clever advertising and half truths. I can't say it surprises me, why should politics be any different to say shaving.

A little off the wall but it just struck me that, to the average bloke, shaving and politics have a lot in common; it's part of our lives, it's a chore, these guys seem to know what they're talking about and have some stuff to prove it, I'll go with what every one else is going for - it must be the best or they wouldn't be the only thing available.

It is only those who take an interest, those who believe things could be better, that take the time to actually think about it. We had local and European elections the other day, one of my friends voted the way her parents told her to, and the other one was about 18 months out of date in what he was talking about, and didn't know the conservatives were nick named the tories - like they have been for our entire lives. Democracy needs the people to be involved.

Trust me though, you're better off than we are at the moment, at least your country isn't seriously considering voting in the Nazis.

Had to vote 2 times today.

Once for EU and once about whether or not a female, should she be born before a male, should have the right to inherit the throne - ppfffffth what is the world comming to! What's next? They get to vote? :p
Just kidding of course they will never be allowed to vote.

Another note. An hour before the booths closed today 55,4% of the population had already voted, so depending on how many did it in the last hour it is going to be a little higher.

Interesting, some countries had a pretty significant attendance. :) I know Belgium has mandatory voting, but I read a news article saying there won't be active prosecution for people not showing up in the future, so mandatory, but in the future not really.

Heard anything about the % up in in Sweden?

And I would say grats on the football match, but I know we won :) Wohoo!

Seems to me that if you didn't vote for Obama, his NYC trip was an elitist, unnecessary and wasteful excursion on the public dime; and if you did vote for Obama, his trip was a well-deserved break that involved no more taxpayer dollars than did his predecessor's frequent trips to Crawford.

If you don't like the guy, you're gonna dislike and complain about most everything he does. Just ask Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, Savage, Ingraham, etc. If you like the guy, well, you're sitting back thinking how much more you're enjoying your life now compared to the prior 8 years...

It's just an emotional after glow Billy. don't worry it will vanish soon enough.

I voted for Bush twice. the first time I was certain I didn't want Gore in office but Bush gave me plenty reason to be concerned. He did well his first 4 years but I still had issues with him. his 2nd 4 years I was not happy with his performance more than 50 to 70% of the time.
By the way, in both primaries I voted for someone else to run.

I liked Ron Paul but thought he was a bit of a loon and suspected there was more politics than concern for America. Based on some of his recent votes I think I may have been right.

Obama has done nothing that any other president has done including presidents of both parties during good times and bad times. I'm sure Roosevelt and Truman never left the White House during WWll, never went to play golf or take "official" trips. What was Lincoln doing going to the theatre after the Civil War with all the devastation and loss of life he caused eh? Taught him a good lesson, he never left the White House again.

Look at all the wars, economic panics and depressions in our history. If you want to critisize Obama you had better go back to all the other ones too.

I do not care about Obama's personal spending habits.

What worries me deeply about him is the lack of fiscal discipline of his government (among other things that will enslave this nation).
