Clutter

This isn't in the nature of 'true confessions' but I have a real problem with this. Having been divorced 25 or so years ago I've been happily solo ever since with a couple of near matrimonial misses. The plus side is I do what I want and have no one to ride herd on me. The minus side is that I am a messy and disorganized guy and I am inundated with clutter. Anyone else have this problem ? I know what the solution is but I have a problem throwing stuff away. Seems that without fail if I give it away, sell it or toss it six months later I need one of whatever it was. :boohoo:

I used to be cluttered, but knew where everything was in the clutter.

I am now clutter free, but cannot find anything.

My apartment is a pretty huge mess. I go through phases where I clean, but also have phases where I walk in my door and drop things wherever I want. Then again, I'm young and I've never lived with a female in any capacity (except when I lived with my mom; then my room was a mess and the rest of the house wasn't). I'm highly organized, but only when I'm outside of my home.

Guilty as charged. Thankfully my wife is not a neat freak, but I'm much messier than she is. Overall it's not a good character trait to have.

I blame it on my Mom (Ok, Ok, not really) but when I was growing up she rarely got on my about cleaning my room and at its worst, there were times when the layer of stuff and dirty clothes on the floor of my small bedroom was easily 12" high. Funny thing though, I knew and still know the general location of virtually everything I have laying around.:)

My live-in girlfriend keeps me clutter-free. I have little corners though, where I keep all my stuff out of sight. As long as she can't see it she's happy.

Now, my corners are completely disorganized.

I'm cluttered, but I'm not allowed to be. All I can get away with is my nightstand. If released into my natural habitat, everything but the kitchen and bathroom are cluttered

Guilty as charged. I used to be a neat freak, my bedroom was spotless, but when my Dad retired it went downhill from there. Dad won't toss anything if he thinks he can use it, so when I would toss something, he would see it in the trash and invariably ask "you're not throwing his away are you?". It was pretty much pointless to toss anything, so here I am. It probably wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have so many collectibles also rofl. (razors, mugs, brushes, shaving mirrors, antique lamps,walking canes, cameras, hats, buffalo figures) :fim:

Lucky for all of you clutterbugs, i'm here to help. I will happily relieve you of any shaving related clutter you have laying around.

Yes, I am also a clutter person. Trash that I have maybe used once, I still somehow justify keeping it around for years...

Being a collect-aholic myself I'm also classified as a clutter machine. I don't see it that way but my wife does. I have to be able to see my stuff, or it doesn't exsist...

I used to let things turn into a huge mess, but moving into a 425 sq ft studio apartment cured me of that.

If I don't keep things tidy, I can't do anything.

As Ben stated I am cluttered also and know where everything is. My wife straightens up and I cant find anything.

Jimmy, that could be my story as well.

Most of my stuff is organized, but its a lot, so it looks crowded.
I could not imagine living a modern life style with stylish glossy furniture,
empty drawers and a useless decorating item on top of them.
When I need a piece of rope, I have to have things different.
I have no clue who could fit into this environment except my cats
but I'm not in an urge really. :)

What's clutter? I haven't bought anything in 3 years; except two laptops, one motorcycle, two razors, and coffee.

I've been a minimalist for several years and am very happy with it.

The wife clutters up the house and as a result is responsible for 90% of the cleaning.

What are you guys buying?

Yeah clutter is a way of life for me.

As a matter of fact I totally ran out of desk space, on both my desk and my workbench, in my office. I recently put up shelving in the office closet and rearranged things there to make more room now I'm reclaiming desk space.

My garage is the same way... heck my dining room is still half full of boxes and stuff and I moved in a year ago. Oh and I have no counter space in the kitchen either except around the stove and sink. The bar is full of misc crap from a set of window blinds to a tool belt to a bag of fixins for brewing beer, lol.

I know where everything is but the clutter does get to me sometimes and I have to organize everything. I'm in that upswing now actually. The office should be finished today then I'll be knocking out a lot of the mess in the dining room. Still need another bookshelf or two in there though. Got one a few weeks ago and it helped a lot but always more crap to be stowed away.

I live with clutter because of my wife. The one year old isn't even as bad as she is. :rant:

I find it interesting, yet comforting to keep reading the phrase "I know where everything is" in this thread. I think we are all spatially oriented, and clutter is our way of mapping our environment.

Help me figure out if there's something to this, and answer me this, fellow clutterphiles:

Do you like to solve puzzles? Love to read maps? Are you a whiz at remembering obscure factoids?

Do you answer the question "Have you seen the . . . ?" with something like:

"It's in the living room, in the stack by the left end of the sofa, underneath the copy of the recipe for Shrimp with Chili Sauce"

If someone "moves your stuff" do the bills wind up not being paid until they send you new ones?

Who else can relate, or was this post waaaaay too much information? :roflmao

Anyway, at the place I lived before, we had a houser who was a REAL case.
He managed to fill several apartments, basement compartments, attics and staircases with stuff. (was an old, partially abandoned building he tried to keep halfway in shape) When the house was sold they sized him down to one apartment and one basement compartment.
That was a huge drama!

I guess not one of us will reach that amount of things ever.
