Don't know, and don't really care. I will note that there are a lot of people who make less than I do but who live just as well or better simply because I live in an expensive area.
I also liked a comment I heard once a few years ago. The main difference between the rich and the poor is that one group has been taught to respect money and the other has been taught that it is unimportant or bad.
The bible says," For the love of money is the root of all evil." (1st Timothy 6:10) I don't love money but I'd love to have more. :) For a spell I was a carpet installer for a company that had two stores in Northern NJ.
One catered to higher end homes in Essex Fells, Upper Montclair and Glen Ridge and the other to middle class homes in Lyndhurst, North Arlington and Kearny.
In the rich folks homes how we were received varied and most of the people were nice but I will say that they rarely tipped us at the end of the job, never moved an ashtray let alone any furniture before we got there and usually didn't offer any refreshment.
In the working class home more often than not the furniture was moved as much as possible with the exception of the really heavy items. They offered us coffee or a cold drink and they invariably duked us with a five or a ten dollar bill each.
I don't know what that all means and the only other thing I will say is that if America has a class 'system' it is based on wealth and education and often the two go hand in hand. I unfortunately have little of either. :) Thanks for letting me hang out here anyway.
I don't get the feeling that it's frowned on here. As a group of gentlemen, I don't think money, or lack thereof, really comes into the equation. Personally, whether a user has money or not isn't a consideration for me.
As for the rich jerk comment, there are jerks everywhere regardless of financial standing. Chances are, if someone is a jerk after suddenly receiving a windfall, they were a jerk before the windfall. They say our core personality is more or less set in stone before we're 14. I hate to say it, but some people are just born and raised dickheads.
As regards having money a bad thing on SRP, you tell me:

Ok seriously, the amount you make doesn't matter, what matters is that you spend less then you make....
Seeing credit apps. all day long has jaded me somewhat, I see peoples finances, what they make, what they spend and what they want to spend and more times then not, shake my head in disgust....
I see things from the family of 4 who is making it on $24k per year, to the single doctor making $180k per year sunk to his eyeballs in debt...
This made me realize long ago what my parents taught me was all I ever needed to learn about money, very simple "Spend Less Then You Make"
"Always have 6 months of your bills in the bank"....

Of course the ability to handle money sanely is one that bears little relation with the actual amount one has. Some of my spending could/should be reformed I guess. ;)

It's all about upbringing. I don't care if you're rich or poor, I do care if you don't know the value of money. Some people just have no idea and it annoys the hell out of me, justifiably so, I think, only got to look at the situation we are in today financially.
I don't think anyone on the board makes less than I do lol. I haven't noted any divisions between the have and have-nots. I think that most people, no matter how much or little they have, just want to hold onto as much of the green stuff as possible, or at least keep the government from taking it.
I was changing channels last night. Just before I was going to turn off the tube and hit the sack, I caught a few moments of a talk show with some actor making comments about 40 year old women's , uh, posteriors. My thought was "what a jerk". Then I thought of this thread. It seems that rich jerks can be stupid in much more public forums. If this was a guy in a tavern, I would never know about it (I doubt I would ever hang out with this guy).
