Does global warming really matter? Maybe we just need to learn how to clean up after ourselves? :thinking: Besides, technology is getting better (something nobody can deny) and as it does thing become more efficient leading to a cleaner planet.... mostly.
That's just a thought though. I don't think we would have to worry as much about whether we are or whether we're not causing global warming if we were using our resources to their maximum potential. :o This is just my opinion though.

Isn't it a good idea just to act like the worst scenario is true and then take it as a bonus if it is all not.
No one would get hurt by using less hairspray during the ozone layer scare.
And if a car with a 2 liter engine can get me to work, why buy a v8 (it might be ok with a v8 if there are serious deficiencies regarding your masculinity that have to be compensated for)
Personally, the way I have always thought about it is that the earth is basically a blob of molten rock, covered with a thin crust of solid rock and water, cocooned in a bubble of gas, hurtling through a vacuum at 20,000mph being heated by a massive nuclear reactor. Oh, and its spinning on its axis as well, but at a funny angle so its slightly off balance and being orbited by another huge rock that affects the thin layer of water, amongst other things.
So someone please tell me how we're supposed to keep anything constant in that set up?
With nature as with economics, nothing is ever a constant and the cimate will change over time on its own.
There was no way that the last ice age was caused by 4x4's, but we had it never the less.
I think that politicians and governments have latched onto it to flash their green credectials and use it as an excuse for hammering already overcharged motorists for more money.
The whole thing is a bunch of nonsense IMHO.
I think it's the "Chicken Little Syndrome." When George Washington was alive, we were in a mini ice age that lasted until about 1850. I imagine it started before the English settled Jamestown, VA. The earth's been warming ever since and will ultimately begin a cooling cycle. Did humans play a part? Yes, but only to the part equivalent to a dump truck of sand on a mile long beach. i hope Al Gore's head heals. Pine cones can hurt!

What does happen in a soda glass when the ice cubes melt? The temperature of the liquid drops until a certain point before going up again, due to the heat exchange and the cold water introduced in the mix. What causes them to melt? The ambient temperature (air and liquid) is higher than their own temperature.Quote:

But 100 years ago we thought that oil and coal were infinite resources. People we're tripping over them in the street. a hundred years later, we're fighting over them in the street.
You can't really tell me you don't think that is going to have an impact. You can't really believe that the threat of global warming, man made or not, is a bad thing if it drives us as a species to better our selves?

I may have gone off on a bit of a tangent. My point really was that I dont think "global warming" has been latched on to by the politicians simply because they have a desire to save the polar bears. I rather suspect they are using it as an excuse for hammering car drivers and generally meddling in peoples lives. They do so like to do that..! :hmmm: I dont believe for an instant that making SUV drivers pay more for fuel will stop anything. Might help the budget deficit a bit though.
The other point was that there is no way we CAN keep things constant, even if we had the power to. Climates change regardless of what we do and taxes will no more stop it than they will stop a meteor strike.
In terms of invention due to fossil fuel shortages, I agree with you. We ARE going to run out of them eventually so we'd better be ready with an alternative.
But here again, governments pay lip service to it with wind turbines (because thats a result now; "Look at all the turbines we built") rather than investing in more efficient methods of energy production, such as hydrogen fusion. No government is prepared to sink millions of pounds into R&D programs that might not pay off for 20 years because they'll be accused of wasting money and get booted out for spending the cash and not getting results.
Well, they already pay more because they use more. And I'm sure it has stopped some people from buying SUVs in order to save money on gas. That's the free market at work! You want it? You pay for it. The money you pay helps develop more supply (except when government policies get in the way).Quote:
