    Default projectors?

well im off to iraq again at the beginning of the year and i was planning of finding a projector to hook a computer up to instead of trying to find a tv out there or try and lug one with me. as i know absolutely nothing about projectors i was wondering if anyone here could point me in the right direction, hopefully not to expensive as it has a good chance of breaking, and not to big so it doesnt take up to much space in my bag, thanks

make sure it's usable...plugs addapters, and what ever connections your trying to make with a bluray or dvd player...most countries don't have the same hook ups! try to buy something with HDMI hook up it's all to easy! good luck over in the sand bruh!

I've had a little experience with projectors, and while I am no expert I have found that when it comes to projectors you definitely get what you pay for. In addition, if you are not projecting onto a quality screen, the results from even a high end projector are usually disappointing, if used for entertainment purposes at least.

There are some newer ones using LED's now instead of the expensive and HOT replacement bulbs. Not needing to hold a large bulb and and dissipate the heat from same, they are much smaller and more robust. But last time I checked they started around 500.00 and went up quickly from there.

this sounds like a reasonable way to go. projectors have gotten quite cheaper over the last few years. of course you'll have to find a compromise in quality and reliability given the restrictions of cost and weight.
the led sounds interesting, but it may be just too new and too expensive.
if you get a regular one, may be worth loooking into picking a spare bulb or two (they tend to cost a bit).
you'll probably have an analog VGA signal from your computer, unless it is a relatively new and fancy one, and that's standard for a projector.

i'd say first figure out everything else that you'll have, i.e. the computer capabilities, the makeshift screen you'll probably be using as there's no need to pay more for stuff like better image or fancy digital signal input if you wouldn't be able to get any benefit from them due to your computer or screen.

LED ones are pretty cheap these days, and small, very small.
