I know this may mark my utter pathetic geekiness, but one of the lines connecting the dots of my life has been Final Fantasy. I got the original game on the NES for my twelfth birthday, and I remember playing it for months--literally, every day after school I would go home, load it up, and lose myself until the folks told me to cut it out. In High School, I bought my buddy's SNES and a copy of FF2, then hunted down a copy of FF3/6 (IMOP the single greatest RPG ever made...) and again, lost days and days of my life to it. Up to college, FF6 was a major touchstone for my offtime, distracting me through rough times and smoothing out the little and big stresses of university life.

Then, my first big purchase for myself, I bought a Playstation JUST for FF7, then of course got onto Tactics and FF8 and 9...but not all the ridiculous rereleases and remasters...

I didn't buy a PS2, but I played through FF10 on my girlfriend's sister's box because I had to, and I loved it. But then I moved abroad and never played 11 or 12.

But last weekend I got 13 on the PS3, and HOLY CRAP...

You know those avatar commercials with the flying things and the blue people? They could have taken some lessons on graphic design form this game. Played in HD, it is simply gorgeous--the graphics are jawdropping, and while my Japanese isn't quite good enough to get all the subtleties of the story, it is really getting me dragged in. I'm glad I got in on this one early, because it's like a direct line to the kid in me and he's enjoying the sensawonda that all too often gets ruined by hype.

So am I the only one totally addicted to Squenix games? Anyone else playing FF13?
