The Most Important Question of the Century

If the movie Avatar has taught us anything, it is that Sigourney Weaver looks terrible as a native inhabitant of another planet. And that theatres showing 3D movies need to allocate vomit bags to all viewers (long, smelly story).

I guess my point is there is a difference between science fiction and science fact. Do we honestly think we will have the technology within 100 years to send people to another inhabitable planet? Or to terraform an uninhabitable one? And why are we, as a species, so important that we need to perpetuate ourselves ad infinitum? Seriously, if humans are as good as it gets then God help the Universe.

That's the type two civilisation and will likely come a few hundred years after that. Technological growth is exponential and in about a hundred years we'll be working on our own world, building the type one civilisation we deserve if we make it that long.

Why is it a false idea? You think the planet can sustain an infinite amount of people?

It is sad but true that with current resources it is impossible to guarantee equal standards of living to everyone on earth. We in Europe and Northern America are using the most of the worlds energy and natural sources currently. Actually so much that we have to import these elsewhere: oil from Middle East and natural gas from Russia. People in China, India and Africa are closing behind us, but there just isn't enough to share. They have realized that they want to share the same cake as we do. I do not like it but it is a fact.

These people have lost all credibility. They are continually caught in lies and are obviously pushing an agenda.
I live in an area where farmers are going out of business because they can't afford to run their farms. The government through regulation and taxation has done that to them. If we were truly in such dire straits the governments of the world would be making sure farmers are producing instead of putting them out of business. It's really just a load of crap used to control people and consolidate power.

if that were fact..i think there would be mass shortages and i just don't see it. fishermen still meet their quotas all the time. plus they do it time after time and year after year. if we only have 10 percent of the fish left, do you not think there would be a massive price hike? the numbers are not adding up. just another green world/save the ocean scare tactic. on my first post i stated where ted danson and crew said we would not have ANY FISH by now, i have quite a supply close to where i live and at some of the lowest prices in quite some time.
if these environmental groups would tell the truth and not use scare tactics time and time again, they might gain some creditability with the rest of us. do not go screaming about something that is not a fact or only half truths.

If we had nuclear power plants, we would have all the energy we need and more, but, using scare tactics again, we have been hogtied by regulation so we are unable to build them. The same people also keep voting down the drilling of oil and natural gas. We have more than we could ever use but are unable to get to it. If these people would just stand aside we would be in fine shape.
