Best wishes for you Rich. As someone else who is no stranger to back pain, although nowhere near as severe as your case, I know how debilitating it can be.

Godspeed and blessing, Rich!
Rich,
Sorry to hear about the condition of your back. I truly feel your pain. I injured my back 6-7 years ago and the pain I experienced would make me break out in a cold sweat. It was impossible to walk, sit or sleep. Luckily I was able to rehabilitate using physical therapy and regular exercise to loose weight and strengthen my abdominal and back muscles.
I'm relieved that you appear to be on the mend. It sounds like the surgery you underwent was daunting. And to have a reaction to the pain medication? Whew!!!
At any rate, please accept my wishes for a speedy recovery, with no major complications.
Take care...
Hi
Best of luck with your recovery. We may like old razors, but there is nothing like modern medical technique. I had anterior and posterior spinal reconstuction (T11,T12,L1) 10 yrs ago following a traffic accident.
Make sure you work hard at the physio. It took me a couple of years to get back up to speed but I can still run and ski. Sadly, I had to give up Aikido.
Welcome back, Rich. Did you just have a posterior lateral fusion? Or a anterior and posterior fusion?
I hope you get back to full health soon.
Welshwizard, "Chance" fractures are pretty common in traffic accidents. It's good to know you were able to have a full (mostly) recovery!
I have bad arthritis in my neck so pain and I are very close friends. Glad you seem to have found a solution. Get better soon.
Actually, it wasn't a spinal fusion, One of the places I went to "Jacksonville Orthopedic Institute", (They take care of the Jacksonville Jaquars) wanted to fuse my spine, 3 levels..He said the break wasn't the source of my pain, the discs were, and I have a very slight case of scoliosis, not noticable. That's when i got a second opinion. Mayo injected the "Pars fracture" in my spine with Lidocaine and steroids...I had instant relief, then some pain for 2 days, then 1 month of a pain free life. I was sold on Mayo. The treatment for a pars fracture is plates, screws and a bone graft. It's a little different that a fusion, which is basically bars bolted to your spine...
Glad to hear you may have finally found a solution for your back pain Rich.
yeah, I know... I sell spine implants (I'm in spine surgery virtually every week), but that's the first time that I've heard anyone say anything about plates, screws, and bone graft that didn't involve a fusion (unless they are doing a full segmental fusion. I'd be really interested to learn more about that Pars repair technique
