It was done at Mayo by Dr. Deen, Professor of Neurology. I will ask him about on my follow up visit, my case is rare, He's done only seven of these surgeries, which made it really scary...I was so glad when i woke up and could see, and feel my toes....
P.S. I may not be explaining it correctly either, I'm drugged up pretty good, and the Doc didn't get too technical with me,
He said, yeah, a bone graft, something else, a couple of lag screws, and plates...
I'm curious now, so I'll find out....
Get well soon, Zib... Sorry to hear about your troubles, I'll keep you in my prayers.
Rich:
Sorry for the pain you have and are enduring, but, glad that you're confident in a better future.
Very Best Regards,

Hey Zibley,
Good for you! I had degenerative disk disease and went through two years of agony beofre I was finally diagnosed. When it got so bad I would black out from the pain while bending over the sink to brush my teeth, I went through a procedure called "laminectomy with fusion". A neurologist removed thedecaying disk and fused L5 to S1 with two ray cages, four screws and two rods. The procedure was completely successful. I was up and walking the day after the procedure. I wore a big clam shell like brace and had physical therapy for a few months and walked around town for miles every day. Three months after the procedure the pain was gone! Now, fifteen years later, back pain is only a memory. The pelvic thrusting ain't what it used to be but I have had no back pain since I recovered from the procedure.
I wish you the complete success that I experienced. I wish you freedom from lower back pain.
Brad
Good luck with the recovery. Sounds like everything is already getting better.
Take Care,
Richard
Wishing you a speedy recovery Zib. Seems back pain hits even the best of us.
Keep ya head up :)
