I've noticed that many people prefix their posting with the word 'so'.
As in: "So I've bought this....." etc.

So,( :dropjaw: ) I do not like when folks use a 75 cent word instead of a 5 cent word. I am a firm believer in KISS when i comes to writing. I also think the level of writing has tumbled in the US to near disastrous levels. But that is just my 2cents.

Pre-warn. What in christs name is a pre-warning. That's just a warning! No one has ever said 'just to warn you . . .' after you've experienced an event.

That annoys me.

It's the same at a mutual traffic indecision like a four way stop or holding open a door for me (usually in front of his girlfriend he opened the door for in the first place). I can see the ginuine effort of someone's help, but most times when someone waves me on infront of them at traffic they're saying "I'm in control of the situation, and therefore, you're not. And I'm going to LET you go first.".
Anyone else see my point? Am I alone? I talked it with a pal once and he didn't agree.

To me, this is over-analysis of the situation. But I can see where you're coming from. As one who, "buys drinks" and "directs traffic from the driver's" seat, it's 100% of the time done in good nature and as a courtesy.

That is like the word "nuther" which is being utilized quite frequently. There are others as well such as "these ones" and irregardless.

Is a near miss is still a miss? Is it meant to be a more elaborate miss?

I'm aware of what is meant by "near-miss" but the correct word would be "near-hit".
