Default Things you like because they break....

Ok, maybe not because they break, but because you can fix them? I mean this group loves stropping razors, and even if we aren't the handiest with a hone, most if not all wish we were. Currently I'm on an Ipod Mini kick. I've found that they are reasonably available in less than functioning form, but are quite within my skills to repair.
So my question to my friends here, what do you like, even as a side, once and a while hobby, to rip apart and make better?

I have no specific examples, but I've always said that everything should be user-serviceable.

Actually, I am just getting a quote for some cut-to-size 5mm tempered glass so I can take my 10mm Naniwa stones off their stands and epoxy them to the glass, like the Shaptons. I guess that counts.

I try to do everything in the house myself: plumbing, wiring, insulation, ceilings, bathroom tiling, etc. I like doing it, and by doing things myself I can spend money on high quality materials instead of worker hours.

+1 on that. And half the time they don't even do the job properly.

I'm more of a creator than a fixer.

I like to know how to fix things, simply for my own sense of independence, but in terms of personal joy, I'd much rather create.

I like to do things around the house, mostly because I dont want to spend £400 a day on someone else to do it for me..! If I dont know how to do something, I'll research it on the net first. Thats saved me several hundred pounds on plumbing costs alone..!

I also like to take my guitars apart and fiddle with them. I'll make adjustments to the truss rod, the bridge and the machine heads. I want to replace the wiring in my Jem next. It works fine, I just want to put the real good stuff in it.

I also love fiddling with my razors, tweaking the edges and stuff.

My dad is showing me some gunsmithing at the moment as well, as I have to fix the stock on my side by side.

Since I've moved out of my folks place, I've really missed having a fully stocked workshop and the space to tinker in. Both my brother and I have commented on that actually. We're both working out of tool boxes and using whatever space we can find in our respective flats!
