It sounded like you were saying to just end regulation. Whatever regulation currently exists probably does so because some dimwitted CEO tried to pull a fast one. Sarbanes-Oxley would not have been written without the Enron & co. scandals.

Is there a specific piece of regulation that you're suggesting we get rid of? I can't help but think that removing accountability will just encourage corporate corruption, which could very well be at the cost of American citizens.

Well the health care bill just passed so we will see what it does to the economy.

Prior to recently voting last month to authorize another 1.9 trillon in national debt for this year, I believe the national debt was around 14 trillion dollars. The reason for that vote was to prevent having to vote for yet another increase prior to the fall elections, and enrage the already enrage voters even more.

What that all means is every man, woman and child is in debt to the tune of over $40,000.00. And the fact that they were voting for this increase in February to avoid having to vote for another increase shortly before the election means...after the election, they'll most probably be doing it again...in other words, they're not done yet.

Now, the analysis on today's Health Care vote was this...the democratic leadership sold the idea that it was better to vote for Health care and appease their now, minority base that is in favor of it, because at least they would have a hope of retaining the support of their minority base for the election, whereas, if they voted no, they were already in the tank for their performance with everything else, (Stimulus, TARP...etc.), and would surely lose in the Fall. So, as stated before, they are representing themselves and their interests, not your's or mine.

In relation to what this all does to the economy...there has been talk for sometime now of our lendors not being pleased with all of this debt, and that our pristine credit rating that we've maintained since the early part of the last century may drop, resulting in an increase interest rate to our accumulated debt. Our debt and the associated interest of that debt is paid in TAXES. So, we have that possibility looming over us.

Social Security in 1935 and Medicare in 1965 has led the country to a fiscal path of unsustainablity, (the existing liabilities with both dwarf the $40,000 figure listed above). With the Health Care, we're talking about an new middle class entitlement that will eventually cover so many more people and require so much more money that it has been estimated that it will result in doubling or tripling the national debt. That isn't sustainable...not trying to be an alarmist here...you do the math...this can't be good for our future.

I think this opens clear the path for the new conservative majority in november to repeal social security, medicare and whatever entitlements and regulations are in the current bill.
That should get US back on track to debt free and with the new popular support the conservative majority can get back to the social issues of abortion, gay marriage, right to arms, religion in schools, evolution and whatever else has been put on the back burner in the latest fight to save the country.

I think that the whole political process in america at the moment is really embarassing. From campaigning to passing legislation to interpreting legislation in the supreme court. And I have already lost all hope in the teabaggers...

By the way, being a scholarly gentleman and all that, could you tell me what the meaning of teabagger is? Please, spell it out.:hmmm:

I thought teabagger is a participant in the recent grass-root movement centered around 'tea parties'. Although I think the teabag is a modern invention and in late 1700s the tea thrown into the Boston harbor was loose.

As far as so called 'facts' in your previous post, the only thing that refers to politics is what you called 'analysis'. And I don't think I need to provide you with an alternative analysis which equally well describes the political facts.

The fact is that this is the political system that is and has always been the foundation of this country, and I have not found a single person with a plausible idea of an alternative. (And as I already said utopian populist politics don't count.)

gugi, the term teabaggers has a much more derogatory meaning than you pretend and you as a moderator should know better...and do better.
