Equality In Competiton Too?

i cant belive we are dragging sports into this...competition is good but every sports team starts equal 0 wins 0 losses some teams are better some are so evenly matched it comes down to simple mistakes dropping a pass stiking out an unfortunate engine or transmission failure taking you out of the race even though you were in the lead to win..... competetion is what drives people to make things or become better,faster, stronger and strive to attain certain goals.....
just a tiny example of why competetion is good. look at the dirtbikes from the 80's and look at them now gone are the 2-stroke 35hp engines and hello fuel injected 450 4-stroke monsters cranking out nearly 60hp..everyone wants to win so they needed an edge make this part lighter make this part stronger
i also think competition is human nature i mean look how far back the olympics go
but aussie made a very valid point.yea there are winners and losers but even the loser is gettin paid..i hate losing but even if i was the loser getting paid to drive a million dollar car and having a great time doing it sounds like a win win situation to me

As others have already said, it's not so much that people who want "social equality" or whatever are looking for equal outcomes, but rather that there should be a minimum level of hardship below which we keep others from sinking.

It still allows for a whole lot of room between that minimum and the top, and that's the competitive arena. Some may not choose to compete, in which case they're better of sucking on society's teat in some form or fashion than rioting in the streets or breaking into your house looking for food.

Before things get too heated about supported the sucklers, however, let me offer that I think there are far fewer people content to survive solely on handouts than conservative radio talk-show hosts would have us believe.

I'd say that what we have planned in terms of health care may be a good start, but it's still not enough. For a very interesting look at what FULLY supporting (and even nurturing) the needy can do, take a look at the Harlem Children's Zone project. Comparing the cost and resources put into this kind of program with the cost of (for example) incarceration that many of these children might otherwise incur is enlightening. Even Rush Limbaugh calls it one of "the programs that really work".

There is a difference between wanting everyone to have an equal outcome and givng everyone an equal starting point. What you make of yourself and how close you come to the top is a far cry from not being given the chance in the first place. It's amazing how many people in the real world seem intent on not allowing others a chance to show what they can do.

I take it then that no one perceives any conflict or double standard. Very well. And all but maybe one poster avoided slinging mud. Very nice.

funny you mention boxing look how big the following for the UFC is....talk about two people whooping the hell out of each other....i wouldnt be surprised if there is some human rights organization condeming that....

I think John McCain tried to do something about UFC type events... maybe I'm wrong though but someone in government did.

:OT When I was a kid I lived near, and frequented , a gym where famous pro boxers trained. Growing up and, years later, seeing the damage that was done to them, I can't enjoy watching two men fight it out. It is the purest sport IMO but the price the practitioners pay is too high AFAIC,

I would think the UFC is less damaging to participants.

Most fights end on a submission. Fights are short and sweet.

Boxing can go on for some time with repeated head blows. UFC has far fewer head shots than boxing. Most strikes are against the legs.

either way you look at it part or all of your body is gonna get worked over pretty good
most fights do go by submission but the ones that get won by KO get beat pretty bad chuck doesnt fight any more but when he did he was one of the hardest strikers in the sport....i would never want to take one on the chin from that guy wake up with all your front teeth in the floor of the octogon

Well, you see it says it right there in black and white for all to see "all men are created equal". So of course if someone has a bad outcome it's his or her fault because he or she is not using the potential they have and at the same time because we are all created equal in order to succeed in life you must crush and destroy your competition or they will do it to you.

Right? Isn't that how it is?
