Super loud automobile sound systems and the urge to kill

Jimmy, I'm not saying you are an a**hole. I said calling people idiots is an a**holeish thing to say. I did not mean for it to seem like I was calling you an a**hole. That was not my intention at all. I do apologize for the terminology. Unfortunately I do not have as broad of a vocabulary as many on this forum do. That's honestly just the best term I could think of to express my thought on the subject. I do have quite a loud system in my car. I however, unlike most, have respect enough not to have it anywhere near full volume when in town or in residential neighborhoods. I may have read your OP wrong but what I took from it is you calling anyone with a loud stereo "idiots." I would have to agree that the people who don't have respect enough to quieten their stereo in such cases are quite inconsiderate and to be honest the ones who come through my neighborhood (mainly people who live near by as the road I live on is just a circle back to the main road) **** me off when they come by late at night blasting their music and waking my son up. But you and everyone else who is chiming in here are making it sound like you think anyone who has a loud stereo, even the rare ones like myself are idiots and a**holes. Maybe I'm just being overly sensitive here but I take it quite personally. If I am wrong about you all grouping anyone with a loud stereo and not just the ones who never turn it down into your attacks then I do apologize. I do hope that you all would not include me and others like me (the ones who do try to be considerate) in the ones you think ill of.

Also, as I said, my choice of wording is not meant to offend. I just do not have the vocabulary I honestly would like to have.

Bulldog, Thanks for the clarification and I do not group them all together. I took the OP to point to the inconsiderate ones. I live 1/2 block from the main road and can hear it inside and I have a brick house.
AFAIC is what i think it should be and means' As Far As I'm Concerned".:beer1:

Hi bulldog, I accept that you weren't referring to me personally. Thanks for the clarification. Glad you posted this as I may not have been clear myself. I don't mean anyone who owns a powerful stereo system. Only those who own one and play it at excessive volumes with no consideration of other peoples 'space'. Matter of fact I have one heck of a system in the house that I can't play to anywhere near it's potential unless I know the neighbors aren't home. It isn't having it that I object to, it is imposing it on others for selfish enjoyment.

If you must know, 12" 1200 watt peak power. I don't like to have the bass overpower the music though. I like the perfect blend. I just feel that the speakers I currently have can provide that blend. I had friend who would crank the bass so much that you couldn't hear the music... not that I minded though... he listened to rap. Not really my cup of tea. I like metal, rock, punk, grunge, and country.

Paco(sorry, don't know how to quote multiple sources) I'm glad you don't group people such as myself into the category as those who are so inconsiderate. I myself get annoyed at them. I don't think I'd like to fire an RPG or .50 at them though.:rofl2: A .50 is fun to fire though so long as it's not at people.

All kidding aside though, I hope no offense is taken by anything I've said. Though I've not met most of the people from here, I consider everyone a friend. I hope to be considered the same. Hopefully there is no animosity toward me from anyone. If there is I hope there is some way I can make things right. Sorry I can't seem to keep my posts short tonight. I don't have any friends aside from my family so I have a lot to say sometimes.

I'm glad. I would hate to make an enemy. Especially here. Since my discharge from the army this is the only other place I even half way feel like I belong.

I used to have a very nice system in my house as well. The wife can't stand surround sound though so I gave it to my Dad. He needs it more than I do as he is damn near def(carpenter who refuses to wear hearing protection). I can still hear somewhat(machine gun fire over the course of three years and no hearing protection).

By the way, what kind of set up do you have in the house? Curiosity always gets the better of me.

I've got a set of old ..... big... Klipsch KSF 5 speakers with a Klipsch 200W sub woofer and the rest of the dolby surround speaker system, also klipsch with a Yamaha DSP A1 that could blow the walls down at 110 watts. I got all this stuff ten or more years ago and have never turned it all the way up. Still works though and sounds pretty good to my ears through the tinnitus.

The quite ones are the people that annoy me. You know the ones with head nodding, looking down, and you pull up next to them and you find they have the i-pod ear phones in, and texting on their mobile. They may not be the centre of the universe but they are surely in their own little world.
Basically doing everything but concerntrating on driving.

Jimmy, man, the old speakers are the best ones. They were made when these companies had something to prove. It seems like now that they have a reputation established they're cutting corners to save money and still charging premium prices. My dad had a pioneer system that he bought in the early 90's and it was wicked. He sold it to a family member who still has it and it sounds just as good as it did new. Now it seems like you buy something that sounds amazing for the first couple of years but as time goes on the quality diminishes but it happens slowly so you don't really notice. I'd love to have that pioneer system I mentioned.

Aussie, I agree. I don't know how many times I've had to pull some kind of evasive maneuver to avoid a wreck. I don't know if it's a national thing yet or not, but in Tennessee, if you are caught texting while driving, it's a pretty heavy fine. I may be mistaken but I think on the third offense it can land you in jail. They're trying to ban cell phone use all together unless you have a hands free device. I personally think you should have to pull over to talk. It's not a matter of having both hands free in most cases. It's that people are paying more attention to the conversation than they are on the road.

I hear ya! That really bugs me, and they're always listening to rubbish music as well. I wouldnt mind so much if they were listening to something good, but its always some lousy Eurotrash pop music or thumping RnB.

And when did RnB stop standing for rhythm and blues? Apparently now it stands for rhythm and bass, hence the car door rattling soundtracks at traffic lights.

My car stereo goes up pretty loud as well, but I dont feel the need to inflict my music on everyone else...! :rant:

Actually, I usually stick on something like Slayer, Machinehead or Arch Enemy when I'm stuck next to people like that in traffic. Nothing like Angela Gossows screaming to drown out the sound of 50 cent (or as I like to call him, approximately 33 pence) being played in the souped up Vauxhall Nova next to me...

Not blaring out, just enough to drown out the chav in the next car. :D
