As well as the style. Dots, as in a Churchill dot, and stripes, as in a Club tie, never go out of style imho.Quote:

Old thread, I know but I've recently fallen in love with the bow tie.
A writer that I used to work with often at Rosetta Stone wore one every day. Now that I'm in a position to look decent at work I've been moving more away from the super casual (polo shirt, etc). However I am frequently called to step in and get my hands dirty (cleaning, bathing/changing adults with disabilities) so a long tie is rather inconvenient. Plus a bow tie is a bit quirky these days and so am I...
Anyway, I just bought my first one. It's pretty traditional stripes in blue/white/yellow so it will match at least four of my dress shirts :).
I found it at belk for 18.99 on sale.
It took me a while to get it tied. The last bit of the knot threw me off while I was trying to get the second part of the bow tied. I finally got it but struggled. Can any of you fellows recommend a good video/chart that clearly shows that last step?
Plus, I was the talk of all the residents (I manage a residential home for adults with intellectual disabilities) and my staff at work.
Our soon-to-be prime minister always wears a bow tie.
I wouldn't call them 'frivolous' though of course you want conservative colors instead of Ronald Mc Donald :)

I hate normal ties, I think they look silly, though I used to wear one every day in my teens. I now always (to work) wear long sleeved French Cuff shirts with cuff links (NO tie). I think if one IS going to wear a bow tie (and they do look rather cool), cuff links are a must...

It's not on youtube so I cannot link the video directly, but in the link below you'll find footage of the Dutch Prince consort calling his tie a ridiculous snake around his neck, after which he pulls it off and throws it on the ground. After that example, many high profile dignitaries started going without their ties.

Mind you, I am not against ties. I just dislike that a non functional garment is used to force visual distinction between classes which supposedly should not exist.
Surprised my fiancé this weekend and showed up to her bridal shower with flowers for her and our mothers and grandma in a nice suit and bowtie. Everyone said the bowtie looked amazing suited me quite well.
Honestly it wasn't the neatest knot but I pulled it off. I'll post pics when I get into work.
