Maybe this will make you laugh

Making dinner tonight for the kids and I say to my daughter do you hear the squirrels outside they sound mad. A little later I am cooking on the grill and my daughter says "daddy there is something in the basement the cats are chasing"

I go do there to see my fat declawed cat and the normal young cat looking at a bookshelf. From that bookshelf a sound is emanating, its an angry squirrel. Now all the cats are down in the basement as well as my daughter and the dog is at the top of the stairs.

I need to get rid of the cats, kids and dog, close the door. I dont want that little @#$%@#$ to get upstairs. Meanwhile the grill is still going with burgers on it.

Back in the basement, I will take on the squirrel. Man vs woodland creature I'm armed with a broom and towel and proceed to chase this guy around the basement. In the process knocking over the cat box. Not only do I have this squirrel running around out smarting a 6'1 275# man but there is litter and cat poop on the floor. Now twinkle toe Steve has landmines to avoid while trying to catch the beast. Remember food still on grill.

The basement door opens my daughter calls down "daddy are you ok?"
As I answer all the cats come back down. This is not going well.

I remember the grill I ask my daughter to go see what is going on outside on the grill (stupid question right? I know what is going on) she comes to me and say's "daddy there is a lot of smoke". Meanwhile there is a lot of adult language going on it basement. There is a light at the end of the tunnel coming.

Enter....The Wife. her words of wisdom (she is a Veterinarian) leave the cats down there they will get him.

As I write this there is a squirrel in my basement without any cats or kids but two traps with apples and peanut butter bait.

LOL I had two of them in my attic years ago. I to cussed, chased and trapped. Nothing worked. Called the professionals. THey trapped and nothing. We ended up leaving them there. I named the Rebecca and Al. Id hear them running around. They never messed with anything and even went outside to use the bath room. Sold the house with them living there.

I remember my sisters cat brought in a squirrel a few years ago, and then darn thing was almost the same size as the cat! Of course the cat let it go and then we had the mad chase to catch the little bugger before he wrecked the joint or escaped into some little nook. Its not like I could get the shotgun out either, being indoors and all..! :D

They're nimble little things, squirrels.

I had squirrels eating stuff on the patio garden. Totally ate some
prize plants down to the roots....

I went to the local Indian market and got a couple pounds of
hot red pepper and sprinkled it liberally on all the jumping off
and landing places....

Oh my oh my what a racket and scolding they gave me the next day.

Great story! Personally, the biggest cliff hanger was what was happening with the burgers. :dropjaw:

Different squirrels to the ones in the UK, which do a fair amount of damage. We also have a creature called an 'Edible Dormouse' in England. They can also wreak havoc in the loft with electrical wiring etc.

Morning update:

I love the smell of apples and peanut butter in the morning

As I head into the belly of the beast this morning not a soul can be heard. Maybe he got back out I say to myself. I start putting things back in place from last nights excursions, level the washer and dryer, sweep up the kitty litter and move boxes. I check the trap- nope no woodland creature. I assess the area much like Elmer Fud hunting wabbits.

Then from under the stairs a sound could it be? Yes, woodland creature. It seems he must have been sleeping in. Rise and shine @#$#@! I am not going to repeat the actions of last nights. At least not yet anyway, must have coffee to get off on the right foot.

Now mind you both kids are available to help, a 4 and 2 year old. All three cats and my three legged Golden, who is just concerned with getting fed and going outside. What a life.

So, today I will take on that beast with all the smarts of a 40 YO man.

Too funny, thanks for the laugh. You have “Watch squirrels” protecting your property. That must have been raucous. The neighbors will be saying that the loud family is at it again. Cool. Keep them neighbors on their toes I say. Come up out of the basement sweating like a slave, carrying a broom. Too bad you didn’t video it and put it to Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries”. And now the conclusion:

I told Mr squirrel things may get ugly if he wont give up.
Meanwhile I strategically place boxes in corners and spots so he could not run out. (human logic at its best).
I was now making lots of noise to flush him out. There, there was his angry voice coming out. He was in the closet under a piece of insulation. I maniacally fluttered my finger and looked for some leather gloves. Among our moving boxes were a pair of hard home depot leather gloves, I at least have some basic protection from hi large squirrel teeth, grrrrrrrr.

Not sure on how good an idea this was but I placed myself between him and the exit, one of use is not getting out. I slowly creep up to the old dingy insulation and .....pounce.
Mr squirrel is now in my meat-hooks. What I did not remember was to get something to put him in. oh boy...Up the basement stairs through the dinning room ...watch out kids daddys coming through. Out the front door me and my new friend leave.

He left my hands in a petulant frenzy, turned and gave me a big squirrel FU!!!!

That cracked me up! :roflmao So you saved the squirrel and also remained uninjured? That's pretty good! Did you figure out how he got in there so he dosen't make a squirrel line back to your basement? :)

A funny story indeed. I am impressed that you caught a squirrel in your hands, no matter how confined he was.

Yes I made it out alive. He may have been tired from chasing i mean running away from me or thinking he was hidden under the insulation. Those guys are strong.

I was Ordered by my Veterinary wife (mind you she wanted the cats and Mr squirrel to fight it out). To check and see how he got in. A brief survey around the house and looking at the roof, I concluded.....
I have no idea? Maybe the eves? But at least I have my squirrel insurgence strategy in place to remove said woodland creatures from my house.

LOL, great story. I enjoyed it immensely! It reminds me of some of the encounters I've had. Maybe some day I'll share them.
