    Default Live Chile mine rescue

BBC News - Chile mine rescue

Watch these miners who haven't seen the light of day for months come out of the rescue capsule. Very heartwarming!

    This is good news....
Years ago I worked underground as a mucker and miner
and later as a geologist explored numerous "abandoned" mines in the
desert South West to evaluate them...

Underground mining is dangerous and in the best maintained
work places things are always dangerous.

I wish these men and their families well. The news media could make
their lives richer or just crazy. I hope all the media with goals of making
a buck step back and let these folk have a life.

This is truely an amazing story that I have been following almost since it started. It's great that they were able to knock off 2 months from the expected rescue date which was originally around Christmas!! And that as of last time I heard all 33 miners were alive and as well as could be expected given the conditions. Truely heartwarming I wish them all the best.

Thank God they are being saved, what a long wait. I wonder what kind of break/benefits (if any) they will get after this. Unfortunately I wouldnt be surprised if they weren't forced back to work in a week or two.

It is heart warming to see the effort placed into their rescue and the support from the entire world. Cool beans!!

Actually, the company is bankrupt and will be sealing the mine. Not only will they not be compensated for their time underground, they are unemployed. The media is all over this, with book deals etc. I hope the miners come out of this ok in the end.

I'M amazed that photos of the miners show them to be quite clean and clean-shaven! I guess they got the razors I sent down to them!
