Thread: Need help finding awesome hair product/pomade for my "Crosstown Fade!"

I have used several different pomades and wax products over the years in my hair, since I usually "pomp" it back in the crosstown fade type look. The guy that cuts my hair does an amazing job with the old school style cuts, but since my hair is very long, thick, and straight, some of the products just won't hold my hair back very well. However, I don't like pomades that are too greasy or make your hair feel too hard and "crunchy" the way gels or something like that would.

If anyone has some suggestions on good pomades or products for this style hair-do, please help me out!!! I live in Nashville and play in a Rockabilly band, so if anybody lives here or ever comes to visit, come check us out down at Robert's Honky Tonk downtown or any of the other venues around town! We are on Capitol, so go on tour regularly as well, so hope to maybe see some of you out swingin' the night away!

well.. "greasy" is a relative term.. i personally use brylcreem and don't consider it greasy in comparison to some of the other products i have used.. i personally don't like anything too heavy or stiff.. so if i need something with a little more hold than brylcreem.. i turn to royal crown..

a real popular one these days is layrite.. the moto is "holds like a wax, washes out like a gel"

Ironically, since I lived in Newport Beach for several years and got my hair cut by Donnie Hawley for a few years, I randomly recalled earlier after posting this that he had his own line of pomades for these types of haircuts!

So, I already ordered the original lay-rite pomade minutes after posting this thread earlier today! I forgot how great and cheap it is, and had completely forgotten about his pomades! That's why I tried to delete this thread, since there isn't much point to it anymore, but it wouldn't let me...

Thanks for the suggestion, and you are right on! Lay-Rite rinses out well, holds well, and isn't too nasty and greasy, as well as annoyingly stiff!

Im a barber that wears a pomp. I make my own pomade that we sell at the shop and i use layrite. Love the stuff.

I'm a HairDresser. Try Shaving cream. Lather some up and apply. I use it all the time. Trust me.

I heard that before and thought the guy who said it was playing a practical joke.

What kind of shaving cream is good to use?? Like a gel that turns to foam, or one that comes out of the can already as a foam?? Or could I even use, for example, my T and F "concentrated" cream in the tub, which obviously would have to be whipped up to create a lather--does it need to be a thick lather, or could I try it right out of the tub?

I am just wondering what the shaving cream will do for my hair and if it washes out easily, etc, etc???
