Spokesman of the Cardinal throws in the towel
I was surprised he didn't do so earlier, but the spokes person of the Belgian cardinal resigned today, and gave a pretty scathing press conference. He called the cardinal a 'spookrijder' (someone who drives the wrong side of the road) who insists that all the others are wrong.
Our cardinal is a man cut from the same cloth as his Fuhrer, and not a week went by without him making a moronic statement, and his spokes person trying to put some context to the words to make it seem less bad.
After last week's 'AIDS is a form of divine justice' and this weeks 'We should not sue or pester retired paedophile priest', the man obviously lost whatever sense of duty he had and threw in the towel. I applaud that man. Since he is a catholic himself, it must not have been an easy decision to make. But at some point you have to stand up for your principles.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 240Sounds like it is the wrong person that is now looking for work. But I agree it's better to quite than to continue a job defending someone you don't believe in. Kudos for him!

Not just in Belgium but world wide and for decades the church's handling of the pedophile priest issue has been shameful. They've discredited the priesthood and the church with their cover ups from day one. Pity that it continues.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thankfully, Jimmy, it doesn't continue, at least not on the same scale. The church no longer protects pedophiles since the whole thing was made public. This cardinal sounds like an exception who should himself, be retired. I too, applaud the spokesman.

Good for him!
It cant have been an easy decision to make and its exactly this sort of act thats going to force the Church to adapt. No institution can keep up with these sorts of statements forever without people deserting in droves and its time the guys at the top realised that.

I really appreciate such decision to give up working for a reason he probably did not believe any more. It must have been not easy decision to make, but after such statements it is easy to understand why he did what he did.
