Because it is fair to judge a nation of over a Billion inhabitants by what happens to a dog on a street? Does that mean that we should based our opinion of the US on someone like Fred Phelps or Glen Beck?
Or perhaps we should base our opinion of the US solely on those 3 white supremacists who chained a black man to their car and then drove around until he was dead and was spread over a wide area?

Btw, the dog was dead. While skinning it in public is bad taste, eating a dog is no different than eating deer. Or eating horse for that matter, which is considered normal in various European countries (but definitely not the UK).
In itself, the act of skinning a dog is no different than the act of skinning a turkey.

I've heard (but have no facts) that eating dogs is a part of Chinese culture. While i do not like it, i can't judge Chinese based on how i feel about eating animals i ever wouldn't.
Skinning a dead animal in public might be politically incorrect and cause to the major trauma for most in the western world, but not so long ago, at least here, there were butcher shops with whole pigs hanging on a wall and there was nothing special about it. Alive chicken sold in the market squares.
Of course that might be impossible today. People do not want to get bad feelings so they do not want to see or think about where their food comes from: dead animals.
We use animal based products so much that we do not even know how many different products actually has something to do with them. I do not say that it is wrong. We just shouldn't feel ourselves better if Chinese eat dogs.
That said. I wouldn't ever eat dog or horse. I'm too soft to hurt almost any animal.
This is a photo that won a Pulitzer prize in 1977. It was taken in Bangkok, Thailand and I do not know the circumstances. What fascinated me about it was the varying expressions on the people watching. Many are repelled while others are smiling. Unfortunately the image quality is lacking but if you see it in a clearer photo it is striking, no pun intended. We've seen similar examples in photos of lynchings in my country, in bygone days, where the participants are shamelessly enjoying the event. We, humans are capable of brutality that is quite shocking no matter what geographical area we come from. :hmmm:
Except for farmers and butchers yes we don't really have a connection with what we eat as we receive it in a finished form.
Pigs , cows , chickens ,moose etc are not raised to be affectionate pets they have been raised and bred for food, just as dogs are in some places as well.
In fact this last Chinese new year the contractor i use gave me haunches o dog which I promptly gave my maid to give to her family .
Point is this was a golden retriever which was most likely left off the lead to walk ran off only to be this guys dinner.
Wont even go into the fact that the government is going to start rounding up unlicensed pets and exterminate them as now as wel as a one child policy we have a one dog policy.:thinking:
Veterinary care here is a joke most people have dogs as a social status but never have them immunized then get angry when the dog gets sick and kills someon from rabies . Ok and the ferrel cat population :aargh:
This is just one simple example yes but its important . You can get a good feeling about a people on how they treat the creatures they should be caring for.
Shall I show videos on how they treat each other ? If guns were allowed to the general public this place would be very similar to say Burma. Without the beautiful jungles.

One given about the Human Animal that will never change is that the further away we get from our closest social group (our family) the more we suspect, mistrust, hate,revile,and find it easy to dismiss,abuse, and murder other humans.
I have no problem with buddy skinning his dinner as long as it was killed in a humain way. As far a the human cruelty there really is no excuse:nono:, no matter what country you happen to be living in.
And these things don't just happen China they are happening in our own back yard. So before we can start fixing the world with our way of life, maybe we should fix our way of life first.
Many old traditions of eating things that might look weird come directly from the times where it was vitally important not to let anything go into waste.
The whole different question is how we treat those animals (or each other for the matter).

As objectionable as most westerners find the consumption of dogs it is fairly standard throughout Asia. I've witnessed similar scenes in Korea, and the Philippines. The sad truth is that they seem to be succeeding wildly at taking over the U.S. without firing a shot.

I don't know , my friends who live in other parts of Asia have their mind blown when they stay here for any length of time. I bought a house in Japan just to have a place to relax. but this is the place to make money not a whole lot happening anywhere else.
