Default Academic research confirms superiority of straight razors

At last, some recognition: Shaving science: cutting-edge research sharpens men up in the morning - Telegraph

Note particularly the last two or three paragraphs:

'Which leads to the prickliest question of all: how many blades does a razor really need? Both Gillette and Wilkinson Sword now have razors with six blades – where will it all end?

It seems that these models might, shockingly, be a triumph of marketing over substance. Dr Andrew Wright, a dermatologist with the British Skin Foundation, says the quality of steel is more important than the number of blades. "The better the steel the sharper the blade can be, which is why the old cut-throat razors often give the best shave." '

Tell us something we don't know!

It's good to see other people acknowledging what we already knew, but this is only going to push the eBay prices higher.

But we rock! It's right there in the newspaper...!

I have to admit that, at the right price point, I have always wished Gillette would create a single blade razor on those cool springs they used to have on the old Sensor.

I'd probably chuck a few of my DEs out if they ever read that article.

The important thing for Gillette to figure out is that they can make a better shaving, smoother cartridge with a single blade and still charge $1 for each cartridge and save a bundle on parts. Profit always being their primary interest.

I dont think it'll stop until the consumers realise that they're getting ripped off.

I mean the latest advert advertises sharper blades as Gilettes new approach to shaving... revolutionary.

But then they'll need Steve Jobs to do the marketing:
Magical, Revolutionary, Simple, The quality of a vintage Leica camera...

Yeah, but how long before he starts telling us all that we're holding our razors wrong?
