I used to carry for work (not law enforement) and for personal protection. Now I just carry for personal protection.

Wow, a different world, can't imagine carrying a gun in NZ. I've got my hands and always carry a CRKT M13Z in my pocket.
I've been in a few situations and always managed in the first instance to walk away but there has been the odd situation where it hasn't been possible. I've still walked away, the other guy wasn't so pretty. :D

I guess if you carry you've got to be prepaired to use it and if you do, it will live with you forever. :(

Well I dont know what the crime rate is like in NZ....but Im betting its not like the cities around here. As far as being prepaired to use it....it basically works like this

Better not brandish a weapon unless you are prepaired to fire, if someone on the other end of that barrel doesnt completely believe that you are willing to use it, chances are you will end up getting shot with your own gun. On the other hand if you are prepared to use it, and hold your ground....the big hope is that you dont have too.

Very strange laws in the US....you can carry a gun, but if you shoot someone that is trying to kill you are who you believe is trying to kill you....their family can sue you and you can be thrown in jail....sorta screwed either way often times...very sad.

I always carry a knife ,Its illegal here now ,like every thing else ,I`m a knife maker ,part time and carry it more for drumming up buisness not protection,to me its also a tool ,I use it at least three or four times a day,its a one hand opener liner lock with fancy handle

The kind of work I do I am all over the place. So I bought a Glock 19 and just keep it under my seat. I would carry but I have never got around to buying a nice IWB holster for it. Then I would carry on myself regularly.

I hope to never use it, but maybe just scare someone off.

I carried for years, and still have a concealed license. I had to threaten to shoot once, but fortunately, the other guy KNEW I would ventilate him if he proceeded with his actions. I made sure he knew. I have ultimate faith in the .45 ACP, and in my ability to hit what I aim at.

I always carried a Commander (single stack) in a shoulder harness. Having the pistol in the car doesn't do me any good when I'm not in the car.

I won't pull it unless I'm ready to aim it, and I won't aim it unless I'm willing to shoot what I'm aiming at. It's almost like one motion.

Ya no question ever about firing...the wonderful thing about j fram revolvers...or most revolvers for that matter...as far as hitting things when loaded with a .38 no problem on multiple shots at .357 it better be a one shot stop...so much recoil eats up time. I have a really nice .454, and at around 220 pounds the 454 damn near knocks me over...due to the weight (or lack of weight) the .357 isnt that far behind...hurts like a bitch after a few rounds! but for a 1 7/8" chambered in .357 its pretty accurate for a self defense weapon....certainly wouldnt win any medals with it though....

I have a uberti 45 long colt wheel gun for western action and about 8 rifles
the best one I own is a custom made rifle in 375H&H Mag, with a custom stock and extensive engraving around the action mag hatch ,scope rings ,its built on a 416 sako action its a stalking or dear rifle ,very light however the stock fits me that well it dosn`t seem to kick that hard

sometimes I shoot 45 long colt out of my .454 it feels like shooting a .22

yeah, the 45 long colt isn`t all that impressive as far as power goes ,however I still wouldn`t like be on the recieving end,I imagine it would sharpen you up some what
