i smoked from the age of 17 till 37......... my own damn fault.... my father quit smoking when i was ~3 so i can't blame him....... i never wanted to be the marlboro man.... so it was MY choice to smoke for those 20 years....

i dipped snuff *(copenhagen) from the age of ~12 till the age of 37......... also my own damn fault... altho my father occasionally chewed tobacco... i hated that $hit he used... so it was my choice to dip for those ~25yrs......

i never once in my life looked at a sports figure doing something and thought "hmmmmmm brian... that guy looks cool... you should do what he does"...... that is a weak excuse for people who don't accept responsibility for their own actions...... peer pressure my ass..... that is the excuse kids use to try and get their dumass parents to feel sorry for them and lessen the punishment they face for screwing up........ i don't blame them ... i would have done the same if not for the fact my father didn't accept weak minded excuses like that.....

he knew about me as i know with my kids *(24/17/13) that we all have the ability to make our own decisions........

sports figures have as much to do with kids tobacco use as fish do with children drowning from trying to breathe water.........

and all the politicians are lying theiving scumbags...........

Conscious decisions and constant social influence are two entirely different things.

When did you decide to be a capitalist?
When did you decide to not wear dresses? (I'm assuming...never know, I guess.)

You didn't decide it, but the people around you did it so you did too.

Aren't we all influenced by those around us ? They call it "monkey see, monkey do." Why does the herd go chasing after shapton glass until the naniwa becomes the next big thing ..... dulicot .... j-nat ..... Filarmonica. When I was a kid and John Wayne, Gary Cooper, Humphrey Bogart all puffed away on their cigarettes of choice it had a big influence on me. An ironworker in my teens, when an old timer pulled out a tin of Copenhagen I said "what is that"? My first of many dips.

We see it in the tattoo industry. I tattooed for years and never had a women get an armband of barbed wire. Some super model hit the media with one and suddenly tattoo shops all over the country became inundated with females of the species coming in asking,"Do you have barbed wire"? Are kids influenced by baseball players who chew tobacco. Undoubtedly some are. Whether the "state" should protect us from ourselves is another matter.

Partly. Some things are just innate to the person, not related to what others do or don't.

I have 2 lovely daughters. We don't push them in any way to be this or that, despite our own preferences.

My oldest daughter is the kind of girl that likes pink, princesses, and ponies. The is a girly girl. But she is very competitive. She wants to be best at everything she does, and due to genetics, she usually is. Whether it is the yearly running contest, playing tag, or learning to read or multiplication tables, she never goes for second best. And whenever possible, she wears skirts and pink colors. She is also very impulsive, and usually does things without explaining to us why or how.

My youngest is ... different.
For her, we had to divide the animal kingdom into things that she is allowed to crush underfoot, and things that aren't. She collects swords. She sleeps with a rubber knife under her pillow for killing the beasts in the dark. Her favorite tshirt is one she chose for herself in a gothic shop. It features the grim reaper with a scythe and a bunch of skulls on a rope.
Last summer she wanted (and got) fluo pink coloring in the front locks of her hair. She is 4 years old and (in the words of my sensei) overdosed on 'cute'

2 girls. Same parents, same upbringing, totally different outcome.

next there gonna be making copenhagen illeagle just wait and see I love this country and im jointing the army so i can fight for her but its things like this that make me wonder what our forfathers would say about this country that has had many shed blood so we could be free to do as we please providing it dosent hurt others

The simplest solution is for congress to mind their own f'ing business and worry about the important things.. Like protecting our country and getting out of the way of business and let people life their lives....
