kilts

Manly or not??! :thinking:

Just asking since, on another forum, I noticed a guy proclaiming he's been wearing them every day for 4 years now and, a while ago, he got picked up by the 'coppers' because they thought, after a complaint by some whacky mother, that he was some kind of child molestor (apparantly he walks past a children's prison aka school every day to & from work). :roflmao

While I do find that amusing, it did got me wondering who else wears kilts...me..I've never even seen anyone in a kilt anywhere except on TV..and Mad 'rowdy' Roddy Piper of course! :D

I've seen a few around, mostly on special occasions and in fancy restaurants. There's nothing wrong with wearing a kilt. The mother and the cops overreacted.

yeah, that's what I think as well. :) Just was wondering how socially accepted it would be for men to wear it... :D

It is in Canada, but we are majorly multicultural and quite a few people here identify themselves as Scottish.

you mean they have red hairs and drink a lot? (sorry, too much simpsons influence here) ;)

I think it helps if you have the scottish accent lol. But I have seen a few around the US and while it got peoples attention, they certainly were not upset by it.

Some of them even spoke with a standard local accent. Which is not to say that there aren't people with the true Scottish accent around here as well.

On that note, that's the same as kids identifying themselves as Italian even though neither they nor their parents have come within 1000 miles of Italy and same with SOME "African" Americans/Canadians.

It's simply a heritage identification. Although I'm an 7th generation Canadian I'm proud of my Scottish ancestry and think others should be proud of theirs as well.

And I have worn a kilt before although it's not something I feel comfortable socially doing. They sure are comfortable to wear and because they're so heavy and thickly pleated, almost impossible to fly up which was my main concern. Add a sporin which nearly doubles as a protective cup and a man may walk around as secure as can be.

X, I meant it as a general observation. There is nothing wrong with heritage identification. It's just an amusing phenomenon unless you go overboard with it.
