Things your wives are not allowed to touch

I hate to tell a fully grown woman to keep her hands off something of which she owns half, but I have decided that I must do this with a few things. Unfortunatley, I had to add Waterstones to the list this week. She decided to drop my 5K Shapton pro on the concrete and busted it in two. So honey, here is my short list.

1. Japanese kithcen knives ( She can have the German ones)
2. Shapton stones
3. Black steel fry pans (nobody touches these babies, they are that good)
4. Razors

I'm trying to envision this mishap. Maybe... in your workshop... 'cause of where else could a waterstone come in the vicinity of concrete?... and mama comes in to chat about something... spots the stone, picks it up with two little fingers 'cause it looks like it could be vile, and says something like, "Oh honey, look at the spider on the floor! Bombs away."

Sorry to hear about it Larry. Shaptons are great stones and I always wanted to try one. You can use this as an excuse to buy a replacement and another one since you're already paying for the shipping :D

There is nothing my dear wife is not allowed to touch...and a couple I'm actively encouraging her to - the lawn mower, for instance:D

Seriously, my wife has a knife phobia which includes straights and associated peripherals, so no chance of her ever touching these. Makes getting ready in the mornings a bit tricky though...

I like to sharpen knives outside in the backyard. I left my stones on the table the day of a family gathering. Not a wise move.

It's not cast iron. They are inexpensive steel pans made in France by Matfer Bourgeat (spare me the comments). You have probably seen these used as Crepe pans in professional kithcens. They are beyond compare for coloring crepes and omelets and have superb non-stick qualities once seasoned (takes time). They are indestructible, but can rust and lose their slickness if not cared for properly. They need to be wiped and dried after use, just like a carbon steel razor. We don't use any Teflon in our house, thanks to these babies.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanx for the explanation. But, the seasoning and care routine is very similar as that for the cast iron pan...

Just out of curiosity, JL, what do you have made of kevlar that your wife could harm by touching?

My wife is afraid of my guns, which is unfortunate, because I try to get her to run a light coat of CLP over the pieces every month or so while I am gone...but alas, I just have to clean them up every time I get back.

I let her touch my computer, but I have her own login for it so that important things can't be changed...I'm a bit of a computer geek :P Also, I don't let anyone else do my laundry, but I think that's more of a quirk than a protective habit. After all, I don't sort my clothes or anything...if they come out of the washer and are wearable, they have survived the harrowing :)

Yesterday was the best day to find another something to do...

I have two vests one old and one brand new which she thinks can be man handled because its bullett resistant, which just isnt the case. I am getting her, her first gun for christmas, so I may be adding a groin protector to my kevlar lineup :eek:

I was similar in that I didnt let her do any of my wash, but that is because she would shrink everything. Eventually she learned, and she folds much better than I do, so I let her do it.

I caught my girlfriend putting a small 8" high potted Christmas tree on top of one of my £1500 Dynaudio hifi speakers yesterday. :eek: :nono:

I just calmly asked her to remove it, she countered with "but it looks nice and it's only little", to which I counted with something along the lines of "those speakers cost £1500 and nothing I REPEAT NOTHING gets put on them EVER". :cen

She still thinks I was being overly harsh, but wars have begun over less trivial matters. :roflmao

No wonder I'm here. :D I have a lot of stuff I consider "cool". My poor wife doesn't dare touch them. She has a history of breaking things. Fortunately, for me, one of her worst incidences was with a boyfriend who collected porcelain dragons. Need I say more?

So, my list:

Any "guy" stuff.

Btw, I can relate to the scene in the movie Diner where his fiance touches his record collection. I'm not as organized, but it's a very empathetic scene for a guy. Check the movie out.
