Thanked: 13250Life in Rural Idaho - Things are different up here
So I am leaving the house this morning after a great morning shave, and I hit the Highway and start to drive into Sandpoint my normal routine for Fridays
as I head south down the highway I see people on the side of the road holding American flags and they have Thank You signs, just out there in the middle of nowhere.. Keep in mind I live 13 miles from Sandpoint to the South and 15 miles from Bonners Ferry to the North, I keep driving and spot a brand new really nice Unlimted Jeep drapped in a huge American Flag and again a Thank You sign, getting closer to town finds 100's of people lining the highway all flying flags.. No officials etc: just normal everyday people, all standing at the side of the highway waiting.. I start thinking, and then it hits me
I got this yesterday
Please try to be on the roadside, Highway 95, as Ethan's body is moved from the Sandpoint Airport to Bonners Ferry. Carl and I will be in Bonners Ferry waiting to let this boy's family know that we honor his ultimate sacrifice. Bring a flag. He is expected to leave the Airport at 11:00am.

Idaho Soldier’s Funeral This Weekend
Made me very proud to see the community come out in support of a fallen Idaho son.. I pulled over and waited for the procession to go by taking him home...Last edited by gssixgun; 08-17-2012 at 09:26 PM.

Thanks for sharing that Glen. Things are much the same around here when a local is lost.
It would be even better if the response you saw happened every single time one of our
service members was lost and are coming back to their home in anytown U.S.A. for last time. It has to do with respect for sacrifice and politics should
be left out of those events.Bob

Similar processions here when remains fly into MacDill. Regardless of where you are politically, you can't help but respect and honor these brave young kids. As cool as such displays are in reassuring us all about the true sentiments of everyday people, I'd be much happier if such displays were never again required. IMHO, there is absolutely no good reason for any of these kids to be coming home in boxes. Bin Laden has assumed room temperature and as far as I can tell the entire damn country of Afghanistan isn't worth one more of these kids to be killed or permanently maimed.

You know, it would not be so bad for me if Afghanistan would be a changed place for the better after we left but I have a feeling it will revert to the way it always was before. Gotta go before I really get bitter and twisted about that.
